Walt Disney Animation Studios and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures are responsible for the 2021 American computer-animated musical fantasy comedy film Encanto. The picture, which marks the studio’s 60th release, was directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, co-directed by Charise Castro Smith (who also co-wrote the script), produced by Yvett Merino and Clark Spencer, and included original music by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Stephanie Beatriz, Mara Cecilia Botero, John Leguizamo, Mauro Castillo, Jessica Darrow, Angie Cepeda, Carolina Gaitán, Diane Guerrero, and Wilmer Valderrama lend their voices to the animated picture. In Encanto, a multigenerational Colombian family, the Madrigals, led by a matriarch (Botero), obtain magical gifts from a miracle that enable them to serve the people of their rural hamlet (named the Encanto), with the exception of Mirabel Madrigal (Beatriz).

Who Is Dolores In Encanto?

Dolores Madrigal is a supplementary character that will appear in the upcoming animated feature film Encanto, which will be produced by Disney in 2021. She was Pepa and Félix Madrigal’s first and only child, and she was their first daughter. She was born with heightened acuity in her hearing.

Background

Dolores Madrigal is the oldest child of Félix and Pepa, the older sister of Camilo, and the older brother of Antonio. Dolores is the cousin of Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel, as well as the niece of Julieta, Bruno, and Agustn. Dolores spent much of her early childhood in the nursery with her two younger cousins, Isabela, who is only a few weeks older than her, and Luisa, who is two years younger than her.

While Bruno was still a family member, Dolores supposedly had a vision in which her uncle told her that she would never be able to have the “guy of her dreams” because he would be engaged to someone else.

Dolores was left in the nursery with Luisa after Isabela’s fifth birthday and the delivery of her magical present, and she would not leave until her own fifth birthday. The night of her fifth birthday, Dolores was given the gift of improved hearing and moved out of the nursery into her own room.

Dolores is Mirabel’s Oldest Cousin in ‘Encanto’

Mirabel, a teenage girl from Colombia, is the protagonist (voiced by Stephanie Beatriz). Each member of the Madrigal family possesses special abilities thanks to a candle with mystical properties. Except for Mirabel, no one gave her anything when she turned 18. It doesn’t take long for her to realize that her family’s magical abilities are dwindling, and she needs to act quickly to prevent them from disappearing altogether.

The eldest cousin in the Encanto family is named Dolores, and Mirabel is related to her through her mother’s side. She’s a sidekick with enhanced hearing abilities. But in the end, Mirabel gets in trouble since Bruno’s vision about the fading magic being her responsibility gets leaked to her.

‘Encanto’ Theory Suggests That Dolores is the Villain Who Broke Magic

Dolores is the antagonist in Encanto, according to a notion made on the YouTube channel Film Theorists. She has good cause to desire the family’s magic to die out, as evidenced by the facts.

Super hearing seems like a lovely gift on paper, but this explanation explains why Dolores is so unhappy with her abilities. Dolores’s frightened reaction to the pyrotechnics and her ability to pick up on minute sounds like her family members blinking are just two examples among many in Encanto.

How the amygdala, a part of the brain responsible for processing emotional responses, functions are discussed in The Film Theorists. Due to her hypersensitivity, Dolores often feels overwhelmed by the noise and activity of Encanto. Therefore, she constantly experiences sensory overload.

While living in Encanto, Dolores chooses to keep several secrets from her loved ones. She kept quiet about the fact that she had heard Bruno in the walls for so long. It’s also worth noting that she might have heard the home shattering yet chose not to defend Mirabel. She “weaponized” Mirabel by telling the family her secret regarding Bruno’s vision, knowing it would drive a wedge between them.

Diane Guerrero voices Isabela, who finds love with Mariano in Encanto (voiced by Maluma). Dolores, on the other hand, has feelings for him. If she destroys the magic, she will be free of her enhanced hearing and may have a shot with Mariano. After all, Isabela receiving Mariano’s love is something she clearly resents.

The Film Theorists conclude that the film’s ending occurs after the house is reconstructed. Dolores is seen in a much brighter light in Encanto once the spell is broken and Mariano pays her some attention. Even though the rest of the Madrigal family is beaming through the final door, Dolores can be seen there looking downcast. Only she doesn’t have an angled mouth like everyone else.

Disney Typically Includes a Villain Arc

To balance out the good guys, most Disney movies have a bad guy who gets better throughout the course of the story. That’s why there are readers who root for the bad guys instead of the heroes. However, Encanto is notable for lacking a central antagonist. Instead, it’s a tale about the importance of family and learning to appreciate one another’s unique qualities.

Dolores in Encanto may seem like a good guy at first, but this idea explains why she’s really the bad guy. Not as obvious as in previous Disney movies, but it’s evident she has her own agenda. Despite Disney’s lack of confirmation, fans are buzzing about the prospect that the film may feature a villain.
