Evidence that Tennessee prosecutors say shows a mother’s kid was purposely slain rather than accidentally killed was presented against her. Evelyn Boswell, who was 15 months old, was alive when she was “tightly” wrapped in a fleece blanket and thrown upside down into a trash can, where she was subsequently found by detectives, according to a medical examiner’s testimony on Friday.
According to Tennessee Lookout, the toddler’s mother Megan Boswell is accused of felony murder in the incident. The gory specifics of the toddler’s death were made public for the first time on Friday during a hearing to determine which pictures might be used as evidence in the impending trial.

According to Johnson City, Tennessee CBS station WJHL, Evelyn’s grandfather, Tommy Boswell Sr., reported her missing in February 2020 after telling officials he hadn’t seen the girl since December 2019. Agent Brian Fraley of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said that the toddler’s body was found after Tommy Boswell, Sr., called the police on March 6, 2020, requesting that they check the storage shed on his property for the missing child.
According to Fraley, who spoke to WKRN, “He believed it may have been valuable for us to look in it and search, so we did respond and examine that.” Investigators found an old, abandoned playhouse that Megan’s father had originally built for his daughter behind the shed. They also saw a trash can and two trash bags right inside the playhouse’s door.
In contrast to other playhouse pieces, which had more cobwebs and dust, Fraley noted, “It was my belief that they had been placed there lately.” He claimed that although it had been years since anyone had used the building, he thought the two bags and the can had been left there weeks or months before he discovered them.
Fraley stated that he removed the garbage bags and the can from the playhouse and set them on the porch of the building, noting that it matched the can Megan Boswell was said to have referenced in an earlier conversation. He removed one trash bag and discovered Evelyn’s body partially wrapped in a fleece blanket and wearing a purple fleece onesie with penguins as the defendant had allegedly stated.
He claimed, “I saw a leg (with) a foot attached…on top of the rubbish.” He testified that after further officers arrived, he took out the other garbage “layer by layer” until they could take out Evelyn’s body. A short time before the death was found, Megan Boswell allegedly told detectives that Evelyn had asphyxiated accidentally while sharing a bed with her and her mother’s then-boyfriend.
According to Tennessee Bureau of Investigations Special Agent David Gratz’s testimony on Thursday, “She claimed that it was an accidental death, that she and her boyfriend at the time were sleeping in bed with (Evelyn) and that when they woke up that morning that she was unresponsive, that she had been smothered.”
The girl had been awkwardly folded and tightly wrapped in a blanket and foil, according to Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Darinka Mileusnic-Polchan, who also gave testimony, according to WJHL. Evelyn had been alive when she was wrapped in the blanket and slammed head-first into the garbage can, according to the forensic pathologist. Asphyxiation, according to Mileusnic-Polchan, was the cause of death.
According to the local news source, she said, “The disposal of this youngster was remarkable.” She was positioned like an accordion within the can, sort of squished. Her head and neck were overextended severely, to the point of excessive extension. (The blanket) wasn’t merely thrown down carelessly (around her body).

She allegedly told police that Evelyn had been staying with the child’s biological father at first, but later claimed to be at a Virginia campground with Megan Boswell’s own drug-addicted mother, Angela Jones Boswell.
According to Roanoke, Virginia CBS station WDBJ, she was accused of false reporting when neither of those claims held up. According to Gratz, who testified in court in April, Megan Boswell allegedly confirmed the child was dead afterward but refused to identify the body’s location. She was accused of murder in August 2020.
At the hearing on Friday, Megan’s defense attorney Brad Sproles argued against displaying photos of Evelyn’s body after it was discovered to the jury. He claimed that the images were too graphic and might unjustly sway the jury against his client. One of the photos showed how her face had been damaged from being wrapped so tightly.
Miluesnic-Polchan acknowledged that seeing her face in the picture was “disturbing,” but she insisted that it would demonstrate to the jury how confined the child was beneath the blanket and aid them in determining whether the death was a homicide.
In the end, the judge permitted over a dozen photos, but she disallowed the close-up image of her face because she thought it may unjustly sway the jury’s verdict. The trial, which was initially planned to take place this month, has been moved until February 2023.
