KPTV in Portland, Oregon – Chaos ensued for kids and parents Monday afternoon after a shooting near a high school campus. According to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, shots were fired just outside Reynolds High School’s Columbia Park campus shortly after noon on Monday.

Children and parents report that many pupils spend time in the park, which is parallel to the school, during lunchtime. According to the sheriff’s office, everyone involved had left by the time deputies arrived, but they swiftly discovered evidence that proved a shooting had actually taken place. There were no reported injuries.

The school wasn’t put on lockdown, according to a statement from the Reynolds School District, because sheriff’s deputies said the area was secure right away after the incident. Angelica Leon, a senior at Reynolds High School, claims that she and her friends were eating lunch outside the building just a few yards from where shots were fired. She said someone was firing at a car while walking through Columbia Park.

Leon reported, “Someone started shooting like a bunch of times.” “We all began to flee. Everyone began to run in the direction of the school because they frequently gather there for lunch. Leon claims that when she returned inside, there was chaos. The teacher who had assisted them had phoned the office, but it took some time for a response.

It took her around 5-7 minutes to reach someone since “nobody was answering,” claimed Leon. Everyone was acting normally when we arrived at the office; nobody was working, and the school wasn’t on lockdown.

Leon’s mother, Perla Leon, said that when she heard what had happened, she rushed to Reynolds High and was startled that the school hadn’t been put on lockdown. According to her, this served as a sombre reminder of the horrific shooting at Reynolds High School in 2014, in which one student shot and murdered another student while injuring a teacher.

We anticipated more action from the staff given the numerous threats we have received as well as the actual shooting in 2014 that resulted in one of the students being slain in the locker room. Leon said. According to a district representative, the decision to put the school on lockdown was made after consulting the Multnomah County Sheriff’s office.

A lockdown at the school would have made it difficult for the many pupils who were outdoors for lunch, the spokeswoman further claims. However, the shooting was too close for some people’s taste.

Living close to Reynolds High, LeeAnn James claims to have heard gunfire from her home and hurried to the school to check on her freshman granddaughter. James remarked, “I was utterly startled that there were so many children out and they weren’t rounded up. I had anticipated a lockdown at the school.
