Nearly a year after a 4-year-old daughter left in her care d!ed of child abuse-related injuries, a 26-year-old woman has been charged with m*rder. According to Cook County, Illinois prosecutors, on June 24, 2022, Asha Green cared for preschooler Cashawanna Love at the girl’s house in the 7900 block of South Lawrence Avenue after the girl’s mother contacted 911.
Prosecutors claim that Green called the girl’s mother earlier in the day to report that her daughter had fallen, had stopped moving, and was having problems breathing. The girl’s mother, who was at work at O’Hare Airport, allegedly told Green not to phone 911, but Green did so anyway. Paramedics were already at the house when the girl’s mother got off work early to check on her.

The girl was brought to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead when paramedics noticed bruises all over her face and body. The paramedic working on Cashawanna reported hearing Green say “she could not believe she might go to jail over this” as they attempted treatment.
The medical examiner’s office later deemed the girl’s de@th a homicide after an autopsy revealed she died of multiple blunt-force injuries consistent with child ab*se. Prosecutors claim that a month before the girl’s de@th, Cashawanna was sent to the hospital to treat an infection caused by a burn on her foot.

The girl’s mother claimed that her daughter was burned while in her care, prompting the state’s Department of Children and Family Services to take legal possession of the child. Prosecutors claim Cashawanna was temporarily placed with Green, who had a romantic relationship with the girl’s mother. A few weeks after being taken from her mother, Cashawanna was restored to her.
The burn on Cashawanna’s foot, which Green allegedly said the girl’s mother occurred when Cashawanna was alone in the bathtub, was reportedly witnessed by Green, according to the prosecution. According to Chicago police records, Green was arrested on a Friday afternoon.
During a hearing on Saturday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse, Judge Maryam Ahmad ruled that she should be kept without bail. On Wednesday, Green was scheduled to appear in court again.
