LAKE COUNTY, Fla. —An arrest has been made by the Florida Highway Patrol in relation to the death of a teenager who was allegedly killed in a hit-and-run accident on Thursday. Enrique Ramirez, 57, was detained by the police on Thursday night. He is charged with fleeing the scene of a fatal collision. He was lodged in the jail of Lake County.
The 14-year-old child was hit by a car on Thursday morning, according to the highway patrol. Linda Shepherd-Miller stated, “I’m phoning today with a message no principal ever wants to convey. That was a recorded message from Lake Minneola High School principal Shepherd-Miller. Students refer to her as Mama Hawk.

This is a very tragic occurrence, according to FHP’s Lt. Tara Crescenzi. “It greatly saddens me to tell you that we lost one of our Hawks today. He was hit by a car this morning when he was waiting for the school bus,” Shepherd-Miller said.
It took place just before 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning at the Willo Pines Lane intersection on County Road 455 close to Montverde. The ninth-grade pupil, who was 14 years old, was crossing the street. According to Crescenzi, “the pedestrian entered the path of the car, forcing the Pontiac’s front left to impact the pedestrian.” Police said the Pontiac fled after hitting the teen. A second motorist struck the teenager who was still on the road.
According to Crescenzi, “This happened extremely rapidly and the driver of the Dodge Ram was unable to observe him lying in the lane.” Deputies from Lake County had discovered an abandoned Pontiac that was damaged, according to the troopers. The damage corresponds to the wreckage that was left at the collision site.
Now that they have fled the site of the collision, they may face serious hit-and-run charges, according to Crescenzi. Shepherd-Miller stated, “We have spoken with the student’s family and are extending our support. While authorities look into the hit-and-run, counselors are available on campus for any faculty, staff, or students in need of assistance.
Shepherd-Miller stated, “This is a terrible day for all of us, but especially for the family members, friends, and classmates who knew him best. Drivers were urged by troopers to watch out for students early in the morning as they made their way to bus stops and schools and to stop if they hit anything. According to troopers, an investigation into the collision is ongoing.
