“Final Space,” the animated series created by Olan Rogers and David Sacks, has provided plenty of laughs as well as tension throughout its two seasons, with the second switching platforms to Cartoon Network’s night-shift channel, Adult Swim. Season 3 is now complete, and fans are eagerly anticipating what the series will bring next, including the fates of our protagonists Gary Goodspeed and Mooncake (both voiced by Rogers) and the mystery surrounding the titular Final Space.
The series has a devoted following, thanks in part to its excellent animation and blend of comedy and more serious moments, as well as a truly stellar voice cast that includes David Tennant, Tom Kenny, Conan O’Brien, Ron Perlman, and others.
Despite the fact that we still don’t know much about the series’ future, here’s everything we do know about Season 4 of “Final Space,” including any information or educated guesses we have about its release date, cast, and plot.
This article has been updated with news of the series’ cancellation after Season 3 on July 29, 2021.
NOW AVAILABLE! These had been in production since S3 & with the supply chain issues it took over a year and a half for them to arrive. This will probably be the LAST batch of Mooncake plushes. One last little buddy!

Final Space has apparently been canceled
Olan Rogers, the creator of “Final Space,” has officially confirmed that his show has been cancelled, and that Season 3 will be the final season (via Collider). That’s heartbreaking news no matter how you slice it, but given the infinite possibilities for revival in the age of streaming, let’s imagine a world where Season 4 happens.
We received confirmation of a second season the same day after the first season’s conclusion aired, and we only had to wait a week after the second season’s finale for confirmation of a third season. If someone steps in to bring “Final Space” back for a fourth season, we’ll have to wait around a year for new episodes to be made as a result of that decision.
Who might be in the cast for Season 4 of Final Space?
We don’t have an official cast list until we have formal confirmation, but we can make educated predictions based on the facts we have. Due to the series’ various histories, even death isn’t a guarantee that we won’t see a character again in Season 4, thus no matter what happens in Season 3, expect anyone and everyone to return in Season 4.
We can reasonably presume that series protagonist Gary Goodspeed will return, with Olan Rogers voicing a variety of supporting characters. Tom Kenny (HUE, SAMES), Fred Armisen (KVN, Eduardo), Tika Sumpter (Quinn Ergon, Nightfall), and Steven Yeun (Little Cato, Mr. Graven) are among the other mainstays we’ve heard voice multiple characters, voicing a total of 48 characters, though IMDb’s “additional voices” suggest the actual number may be much higher when incidental characters are included.
Other cast members we expect to see return include Ashly Burch in the part of Ash Graven, Ron Funches in the role of Fox, Claudia Black in the role of Sheryl Goodspeed, Vanessa Marshall in the role of Invictus, and David Tennant in the role of the wicked Lord Commander.
What can we expect for Final Space Season 4’s plot?
It’s tough to say what we could have seen in Season 4 because the show was cancelled.
Season 3 delved deeper into the show’s darker themes, with “survival” serving as the recurring slogan and theme as the characters find themselves stuck within Final Space itself. Given that the majority of the characters survived the previous season, we can expect the upcoming one to continue similar themes with more empowered individuals who will use their newfound understanding of Final Space and the universe to avenge any dead heroes and pursue Invictus.
Season 3’s conclusion provided plenty of room for this plot to go in a variety of paths.
If the show is saved by another network or streaming service, the creative team will have to take up where they left off and deal with the fallout from Season 3. What happens if that doesn’t happen? So, we’re all stuck with an essentially disappointing conclusion.
