They had taken a break from playing an online game. During one of their conversations, Lawson joked pointed the gun at Austin, and pulled the trigger while believing it was unloaded, according to Ivey.
The sheriff declared that there was no justification for this unfortunate and entirely preventable killing. According to the sheriff, Lawson was arrested on Sunday on a manslaughter allegation.
On Monday, his arraignment was scheduled. Ivey added that Lawson, who “completely cooperated” in the probe, is “distraught and crushed.”
“A great kid who regrettably made a dreadful and reckless decision that has forever damaged the lives of so many,” the sheriff said of him.
Ivey praised Walsh, who had worked for the sheriff’s office since he was 18 years old, for being “passionate about his work and loving his community.” Ivey remarked, “Austin was such a nice kid. Our hearts are torn apart.
