Florida Population Growth Census: According to a Census report released on Thursday, Florida is once more the state with the highest population growth in the US, recovering the top rank for the first time in more than 60 years. For the first time since 1957, the population of the Sunshine State increased by 1.9 percent between 2021 and 2022, outpacing population growth in every other state. Florida’s population has increased annually since 1946, despite a general slowdown in U.S. population growth. But in previous years, Nevada, a state with a population that has increased by an astounding 22 times since 1946, has edged it out.

There are other states with growing populations besides Florida. The people of the United States are gradually increasing again after reaching historic lows at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. According to recently released Census data, immigration is mostly to blame for that growth.

The paper states that in 2022, net international migration, or the total number of persons entering and leaving the country, was the primary factor in population growth in the United States. From 2021 to 2022, the U.S. added 1,010,923 people through immigration alone, a 168.8% increase from 2020–2021.

Due to domestic and foreign migration, the South experienced the most growth of any region (1.1%), followed by the West, which witnessed a lesser 0.2% population rise. Meanwhile, there was little population loss in the Northeast and the Midwest (dips of 0.4 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively).

The research publication coincides with the United States being on the verge of a migration emergency, with states gearing up for an inflow of newcomers as the country’s Title 42 immigration policy is about to expire. The administrative stay, initially scheduled for Wednesday, was approved by the Supreme Court on Monday. Thousands of migrants have assembled at the border between the United States and Mexico, prompting the mayor of El Paso, Texas, to issue a state of emergency over the weekend.
