According to his staff, Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) was involved in an accident on his property on Wednesday and suffered “many injuries.” In a statement on social media, the Congressman’s office asked for prayers for him and his family. No other information was given, and a request for comment made Wednesday night did not immediately receive a response from the congressman’s spokesperson.

Steube is the representative for Florida’s 17th District, which encompasses the cities of Sarasota and Venice and is located in the state’s southwest. Rep. Vern Buchanan, a fellow Florida Republican and accident victim, tweeted, “Horrible to learn about @RepGregSteube’s accident earlier today.”

Steube, a former state lawmaker and veteran of the Army, won his first House election in 2019. As an outspoken opponent of President Biden, he has supported an inquiry into the American departure from Afghanistan, co-sponsored legislation to reinstate service personnel who were discharged for refusing a coronavirus vaccination, and opposed abortion “at any degree of development.”

Sandy and I are keeping him and his family in our thoughts and prayers and wishing him a very speedy recovery.

Steube has previously served on the Ways and Means Committee and the Veterans Affairs, Judiciary, and Foreign Affairs committees. He served in the Florida House and Senate for eight years as a judge advocate and airborne infantry officer. Steube claimed that the terrorist acts of September 11, 2001, served as his inspiration for enlisting.
