After being found abandoned in the woods earlier this week, a newborn infant from Florida was given the name “Angel Grace” by the local sheriff as detectives try to find out who left her. “She is as lovely as an angel. By God’s mercy, she is still alive, “Grady Judd, the sheriff of Polk County, told reporters. Investigators were still trying to identify the baby’s abandoner as of Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, deputies from the Polk County Sheriff‘s Office received a complaint regarding what was described as “a baby wailing outside” in a wooded area close to the Regal Loop Mobile Home Park on Bailey Road in Mulberry. According to Judd, the disturbance began late or early on Saturday when a neighbor claimed she heard “several cats screaming and fighting.”

After about an hour and a half, the screaming stopped, but the woman “heard screaming and weeping again.” “That’s a baby; she said as she stepped outdoors. She then went with her spouse to search the area and outside in the woods, “Judd continued. “They discovered this newborn, this lovely baby girl.”

When deputies arrived, they discovered the infant girl on a hill near the mobile home park. She was wrapped in “some old blankets” and had the placenta and umbilical cord still attached. Angel Grace Lnu, which stands for “last name unknown,” is how Judd gave her name. Authorities calculated that the girl, who weighed around six and a half pounds, was delivered about an hour before she was discovered.

“Fully formed and in excellent health. Presently has some insect bites after spending at least an hour and a half in the woods, “said he. “She is in remarkably excellent health, considering how quickly we got this baby to the hospital. She is a lovely little girl.” The infant, according to Judd, appears to be of Hispanic ancestry.

Investigators combed the neighborhood to learn more about the baby’s potential mother, but they have so far been unsuccessful. In addition, the sheriff’s office used a K-9 unit, a bloodhound, a drone, and an aviation unit in their investigation. According to the expert, the child is typically not wanted by the parent or kept from them in some other manner. And now they’ve left this kid all by himself in the woods.

Judd answered, “Absolutely,” when asked if he believed the youngster had been “left there to die.” “This youngster was abandoned and was in his or her mid-50s. That evening, it was rather chilly. “About the temperature, he added. However, we undoubtedly prevented this individual from being charged with homicide because if the child had been found there and perished, we would be discussing a murder inquiry instead of not.

Due to Florida’s Safe Haven Law, parents may leave their newborn children who are younger than one week old at approved institutions without fear of facing legal repercussions. Only a few weeks earlier, in Tennessee, a state with Safe Haven legislation, a newborn infant was also discovered abandoned in a dumpster.
