The FBI identified the lady whose body was discovered off the coast of Florida’s Gulf Coast last Saturday wrapped in a trash bag, and the agency is now investigating her death as “suspicious.”

According to the FBI’s Tampa Field Office, the woman found floating off of Egmont Key at the mouth of Tampa Bay on Saturday was identified as Heather Rose Strickland, 34.

The report from the bureau states that Heather Rose Strickland was last seen on December 5, 2022, when she was leaving HCA Florida Largo Hospital, located at 201 14th Street Southwest in Largo, Florida. “Strickland spent the most recent five years in the Clearwater-St. Petersburg area,” the sentence begins. “Strickland is originally from the North Florida region.”

“The FBI is seeking the public for assistance with any information that helps law enforcement piece together the circumstances that led to Strickland’s death,” it continued. “The FBI requests the public to assist with any information that helps.”

Fishermen who were working in the region were the ones who made the initial discovery of Strickland’s body.

Witnesses reported that they were spearfishing at the time of the dive. They came across the garbage bag while moving on to the following location. They attempted to pick it up but understood quickly that it was not garbage.

After breaking through the plastic and canvas bag inside, they reported seeing skin and what they thought was either a bra strap or a bikini. According to the witnesses, the distress call was sent shortly after discovering the discovery.

The FBI stated that the body was discovered wrapped in linen and contained within a plastic trash bag. They also mentioned that the discovery took place 13 miles off the shore.

The FBI characterized Strickland as approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, with “a tattoo on the right side of her neck of ‘B’ and ‘E’ written in Old English Script and a Rose tattoo on the outside of her right thigh.” Strickland was also said to have a rose tattoo outside her right thigh.

Since the body was discovered in federal waters, the FBI is the primary agency leading the investigation into the incident.
