Florida’s New Expressway Links Orange And Lake Counties
On Thursday, the Central Florida Expressway Authority will begin construction on a brand-new expressway that will link Orange and Lake counties.
The Lake/Orange Expressway, also known as State Road 516, will run 4.4 miles from U.S. 27 in Lake County to State Road 429 in western Orange County.
Although officials stated that owners must install particular mechanical pieces in their vehicles for the charge to function, the estimated $546 million project is being referred to be a first-of-its-kind since it will serve as a groundbreaking test bed for electric car charging.
In Lake and Orange counties, which have seen tremendous growth over the years, the intention is to provide some traffic relief for vehicles.
Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings mentioned additional advantages. Demings stated, “This new road is a pioneering example of how roads can be planned and designed sustainably with more applications of transportation technology and less impact on our ecosystems. SR-516 will link residents to jobs, education, and much more across our counties and open access to some of the region’s most dynamic communities.”
Three phases of the project will be constructed, and work is expected to start later this month. The anticipated completion date of the project is 2027.
