Rick Allen, the drummer for the 1980s British rock band Def Leppard, has made his first public remarks since sustaining a brain injury after a violent attack in front of a hotel in South Florida.
After being attacked outside the Four Seasons hotel in Fort Lauderdale, roughly 20 miles north of Miami Beach, the 59-year-old Allen thanked his followers for their “amazing support” and stated that he was “focused on healing” in an Instagram post.
Allen’s statement follows the weekend curfew that Miami Beach authorities imposed due to two deadly shootings and disorderly spring break crowds.
On March 12, Allen, who lost his left arm in a 1984 auto accident, was attacked and knocked to the ground while smoking outside the Four Seasons, according to the local news source WSVN.

The investigation has since led to the battery charge against Max Edward Hartley, 19.
Allen wrote on Instagram:
“I want to thank everyone for their tremendous support. Your prayers and love are much appreciated.
Allen said that Lauren Monroe, his wife, was not present when he was assaulted.
“We are currently together and recovering in a secure environment. We are concentrating on everyone’s recovery,” he stated.
“We invite you to assist us in our mission to transform compassion and empathy from shock and disorientation. We are aware that this act of brutality may trigger a lot of individuals.
“We are thinking about all of the supporters, veterans, and first responders in our global community. We can all get through these challenging times with love working together.”
To perform with Def Leppard as part of their 40th-anniversary tour, Allen was in Fort Lauderdale.

According to Miami Beach officials, a curfew was in effect from 11.59 p.m. on Sunday until 6 a.m. on Monday. According to officials, another will probably be implemented from Thursday through Monday, March 27. The popular spring breakers’ party destination of South Beach was primarily impacted by the curfew.
According to the statement, “excessively huge and disruptive crowds” and two separate shootings on Friday and early Sunday that left two people dead influenced the decision.
Hartley, who was traveling to Florida from Ohio, is not known to have been in Fort Lauderdale as part of a spring break excursion.
Miami Beach’s mayor, Dan Gelber, said in a video message aired on Sunday that the crowds and presence of multiple guns had “created a hazard that cannot go unchecked” despite significant police presence and several city-sponsored events supposed to keep people busy.
“Spring break is not something we demand in our city. Spring break is not welcome in our city. It’s too disorderly, loud, and challenging to police, according to Gelber.
