From Scratch Episode 8 Recap
Lino, played by Eugenio Mastrandrea, has finally died after fighting cancer for seven years. You may remember that the couple didn’t want to wait to start a family when they first had to beat cancer. They would have to wait a few years to try IUI or IVF on their own, so they decided to adopt. After seven years, cancer spread to his lungs, and his liver started to fail. He asked his wife Amy to take his questions back to Sicily before he died.
At first, Amy can’t get out of her sad mood. After Lino’s funeral, she hasn’t left her room in weeks, and her sister says she hasn’t even showered. Amy still hurts, but she can get through the day by taking one step at a time. She has been putting off giving his ashes to his mother and sister, but in the end, she gives in. When Amy and Idalia show up with Lino’s body, Lino’s family is ready to grieve. When a priest comes over, the mother and sister start to cry as his ashes sit on the table. Amy must take her daughter to bed because the scene is so sad.
At the same time, Amy is the talk of the town. Why? Because she is not like most widows who are sad. She isn’t wearing black, and she doesn’t look like them. But they weren’t in Los Angeles when she was sorry. Amy is also under pressure from Filomena to stay longer and maybe even move there. Or at least come back once a year. They start to get along better with each other. Lino’s mother also gives her the home and property deed because Lino is her oldest son’s family. There are also homes for this fool, Amy, and Idalia.

The main character in Lino’s bedtime stories as a child!
At the show’s end, Amy’s family and Lino’s friends come from the United States to join the procession. Lino wrote a plan for a family meal in the journal he got from his love, Amy. She tells her mother-in-law that she will take the property while they are eating. When they return to the house, the elder shows Amy the clothes she wants to be buried in. Why? So both of her daughters can find them. After this sweet moment, Filomena tells Amy that she and her son’s marriage was like “two forks eating off the same plate.”
