Gary Friedkin COVID: Happy Days and Star Wars Actor Dies at 70!

Gary Friedkin is dead after getting COVID and spending more than three weeks in intensive care. He was known for his roles in “Star Wars” and “Happy Days.” He was 70. A death notice says that Friedkin died “Last Friday, December 2, he died “peacefully” at a hospice in Ohio, where his brother Alan and sister-in-law Carol were with him. Due to problems with COVID-19, he had to spend three and a half weeks in the medical intensive care unit at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.”

Friedkin is known for his roles in movies like Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983) and Happy Days (1982), where he played Clarence for three episodes. He was also listed as an actor in movies like Young Doctors in Love and Cool World. Friedkin has been on TV shows like Chicago Hope and The Practice. The last thing he did was the 2016 movie Mother’s Day.

In Gary’s obituary, his family and friends wrote, “Gary was born to entertain.” “When he was in high school, he played in a number of local and school bands, including the rock band The Solars.”

“He was a wonderful son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, and friend, and he was a gift to everyone who knew him,” they said. “Gary lived his life to the fullest, making his family and many friends laugh over and over again. He never let the problems he faced stop him. Gary made a lot of people happy and gave many people their own unique “Gary story.”

“Gary may have been short, but to his family and friends, he was a giant,” his obituary said. “His story will live on as long as all the people who loved him tell and retell it.”

Friedkin’s family set up a scholarship at Youngstown State University in his name for “students with a disability or a focus in the performing arts.” In the spring, there will be a party to honor the person who died.

The obituary also said, “The family thanks you in advance for respecting their privacy at this time and encourages everyone to get vaccinated and boosted to protect their family and community.”
