A user on GTAForums, who claims to have also hacked Uber recently, just posted nearly 100 videos online that claim to show development footage of Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto VI. These videos are now being shared on almost every social media site.
The videos match what Bloomberg said earlier this year, like how the game will have a female co-star and take place in Vice City. They also show a lot of unfinished textures and models; in many of them, the code is running in real time. The leaker asks people what else they’d like to see in more videos.
In one, a white male playable character talks to a racist NPC by a pool, and as the conversation continues, you can see the code that makes the exchange possible. In another, a woman character goes to one of the series’ famous strip clubs. I say this because it would be a first for the series.
There is also a video that shows “passenger shooting mechanics.” In it, the player uses an AK-47 to shoot at some police cars chasing him, and another video shows how the interior of a vehicle is modeled.

In one of the more complete videos posted, the two characters work together to rob a diner and hold the customers at gunpoint until the police arrive. Some are in worse shape and only have a placeholder character moving around an empty landscape and doing things like taking cover to show how combat works.
There is a lot of footage, and it would be hard to fake the action and the code running simultaneously as an internet joke. But it’s still a leak, and until we can compare what’s shown here to what’s in GTA VI (we’ve reached out to Rockstar and will update if we hear back), we won’t know if it’s real or not.
Suppose it’s true, holy crap! Considering how popular the game is and how much footage it has, it would be one of the biggest games of all time, right up there with Half-Life 2. So far, though, it seems to be true. Reporters like ex-Kotaku giant Jason Schreier say that Rockstar employees have confirmed the information to them, and Rockstar employees seem to be liking tweets about the supposed hack. But the strangest thing?

We don’t know what kind of deal the hacker is trying to make with Rockstar to stop sending out more stuff. To keep the leaker from getting sued? No matter what, this has to be one of the most unusual leaks in the history of video games.
Bloomberg said earlier this year that the next GTA would try to be more “culturally sensitive.” The re-release of GTA V shows that this change in tone is already happening. In the most recent game, Rockstar took out some transphobic parts that fans had complained about in the past.
Fans are trying to figure out what they can see in the footage already out there, even though hacking is moving quickly, and there are rumors of possible scams involving the sale of the source code. There are already ideas about who will play the new lead.
There is strong belief that the identity behind the GTA 6 female protagonist Lucia has been found.
That is Alexandra Cristina.

Now, Rockstar has said that the “illegal” hack won’t affect the development of GTA 6 but that the company is disappointed by this turn of events. The messed-up aftermath of the whole thing is still going on, and you can read more about it here in our follow-up to this crazy situation.
