Police in Winchester report that an 84-year-old man and his 16-year-old grandson died on Tuesday night in a collision on Route 44. Around 7:30 p.m., the crash took place close to Coe Street. Police said that an automobile travelling east on Route 44 made an attempt to pass a box truck that was travelling on the same side of the road. William O’Leary, 84, of Plymouth, was driving an SUV when the car crossed the yellow line and into the westbound lane.
O’Leary perished in the collision. In the crash, O’Leary’s 16-year-old grandson also died. Due to his advanced age, the police declined to reveal his identity at the request of his family. The automobile driver that tried to pass the truck was seriously hurt, and the injured person was transferred to Hartford Hospital. The driver only suffered minor injuries. Winchester police request that anybody who may have seen the collision phone them at (860) 379-2721.
