The Grant Enables CHP to Increase Car Seat Safety Education Efforts. With the help of the “California Restraint Safety Education and Training VI” or CARSEAT programme, financed by the California Office of Traffic Safety, the California Highway Patrol is stepping up its efforts to guarantee that infants and children are safe while using the state’s streets.

This CARSEAT campaign, which will last through September 20, 2023, aims to lower the amount of baby and child injuries and fatalities brought on by inadequate and unrestrained restraint.

The CHP will provide certification training for first responders as part of the programme to inform the public during child passenger safety seat checks and neighbourhood events.

These initiatives will emphasise the value of adequately utilising seat belts and child passenger restraints and offer education regarding the correct set-up of child passenger safety seats.

By California law, all newborns and young children must travel in rear-facing kid car seats until they are at least 40 pounds or 40 inches tall.

By state law, children under the age of eight must be securely secured in a booster seat or car seat in the rear seat of a vehicle.

Parents and caregivers are recommended to continue using their present child passenger safety seat up to the height and weight limits of the manufacturer’s specifications, even though California law specifies minimum requirements for keeping newborns and children safe while travelling in a vehicle. Until the age of 13, it is advised that all passengers sit in the back seat of a car.

According to CHP Commissioner Amanda Ray, “The CHP remains committed to educating parents and caregivers about the proper installation and safe use of child passenger safety seats.”

No matter how far the trip is, the safest approach to protect your child is always to use a properly mounted car seat or booster seat.
