Guardians of The Galaxy Holiday Special: Confirmed or Not?

Guardians of The Galaxy Holiday Special: Based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name, James Gunn has written and directed the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special for Disney+, an American streaming service. It’s the second MCU-connected special from Marvel Studios, and it’ll fit in with the other movies and shows in the MCU. Marvel Studios’ holiday special has the Guardians of the Galaxy celebrating the holiday and looking for a present for their leader, Peter Quill. Troll Court Entertainment was responsible for producing the special as well.

From prior MCU media, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, and Michael Rooker all return as the Guardians, this time accompanied by the band Old 97’s and “introducing” Kevin Bacon.

Before its announcement in December 2020, Gunn had been working on the idea for the special since the making of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017). The filming of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 took place in Atlanta, Georgia, and Los Angeles, California, from February until late April 2022.

Guardians of The Galaxy Holiday Special Storyline

After Knowhere is destroyed in an attack, the Guardians of the Galaxy buy it from the Collector and start rebuilding it while also welcoming Cosmo into their ranks. During this holiday season, Kraglin Obfonteri recounts to the Guardians how Yondu Udonta wrecked Christmas for little Peter Quill. When Quill expresses his sadness at Gamora’s departure, Mantis talks to Drax about getting him a great present.

She tells Drax that she and Quill share a father, Ego, but that she hasn’t told Quill this because she doesn’t want to bring up Ego’s evil past. After much deliberation, they decide to return to Earth in search of Kevin Bacon, a childhood hero of Quills.

Mantis and Drax return to Earth and try to locate Bacon in Los Angeles, California. After visiting a bar and gathering fan-taken photos, the trio visits a tourist shop, where they are given a star map that they use to find Bacon’s Beverly Hills residence. Bacon, who had been waiting for his family to return, is scared when Mantis and Drax suddenly appear and try to run away.

When the police arrive to help, they and Bacon are all trapped under Mantis’s spell. Mantis and Drax are disheartened to discover, upon their return to Knowhere, that Bacon is really a performer and not a genuine hero. The Guardians later throw Quill a surprise Christmas party, but Quill has a nervous breakdown after learning that Bacon has been kidnapped against his consent.

However, Obfonteri manages to keep Bacon around by explaining to him the role he had in motivating Quill’s bravery. For the sake of spending Christmas with the Guardians, Bacon agrees to stay. At a later time, after Mantis has revealed their true familial link, Quill and Mantis make up, and Quill tells Mantis the whole story of how Udonta accepted his Christmas gift and gave him his blasters. Rocket and Cosmo employ Groot as a Christmas tree in a post-credits sequence, but Groot knocks off all the ornaments and lights.
