SPRINGFIELD, Missouri — Hillcrest High School was evacuated on Thursday when Springfield Police Department officers, ambulances, and fire department vehicles arrived. Officers were called to the school at midday after a 911 call reported shots fired on campus, according to the Springfield Police Department. It was later found that the information was bogus and that everyone at Hillcrest was safe.
The police department later stated that there is “no sign of a shooter” at Hillcrest High School, although an investigation is still ongoing. SPD referred all inquiries to Springfield Public Schools. Officers closed Grant Avenue and sent parents to the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds. While cops searched the school, students were placed on lockdown. According to Ozarksfirst.com, kids were urged to remain silent and not use their phones.
