Ice Castle Lake George: New York’s Lake George is the scene of a breaking news story: A winter wonderland of ice was created at Lake George’s Charles R. Wood Festival Commons last season, helping the town attract more visitors during the winter season. Ice Castles will be returning to the lake with some new additions this year.
In case you missed it last winter, Ice Castles Lake George will be opening its doors again this coming winter. The 25 million pounds of ice used in last year’s castle were grown by the team from the beginning of winter. The location of the castle in Charles R. Wood Park, close to Lake George, provides a convenient destination for the melting ice each spring. The winter attraction Ice Castles plans to add a winter light promenade and ice bar this year.
Mid to late January is the normal opening time for ice castle attractions. Tickets to the 2023 castle have been announced to go on sale on November 28. If you’re interested in purchasing some after they go on sale, you can do so via the business’s official website. Seasonal workers are needed at Ice Castles to create this year’s winter paradise.

This winter, Ice Castles will be visiting five different states. Besides returning to Lake George for the second year in New York, the business plans to construct castles in Minnesota, New Hampshire, Utah, and Wisconsin. Even these castles are popular wedding venues all during the colder months of the year because of their unique ice slides, tunnels, caves, and photo ops. The Lake George Winter Carnival, held in February, will coincide with the Lake George castle.

What to Expect With This Magical Winter Wonderland Attraction
Get ready to embark on an exciting journey through a world made entirely of ice, complete with ice slides, ice mazes, frozen thrones, crawl tunnels, fountains, and more!
Because Ice Castles can be added to and developed throughout the season as long as the weather permits, this is not always an activity that can be completed in a single sitting. If you decide to come back, you might find that there are sculptures, slides, or other attractions that weren’t there when you were there before! The majority of visitors spend between half an hour and an hour exploring the attraction.
According to the Glens Falls Chronicle, Ice Castles will have new attractions this season. Some of these new elements include a sculptural ice pathway, an ice bar, and concession area, characters for meet-and-greets, new light displays, and more.
Please be aware that Ice Castles are dependent on the weather and have the potential to be temporarily closed or unavailable because of the weather. Alternately, certain elements or sections of Ice Castles can be inaccessible for a limited time.
How Ice Castles in Lake George Came to Be?
At a news conference held in October 2021, Mayor Robert Blais discussed the impending arrival of Ice Castles to Lake George and declared, “It’s a game changer.” “Today, we make the Lake George region available throughout the entire year.” The opening day for the attraction was January 23, 2022.
Ice Castles was the result of a significant amount of community participation and had been in the works for three years prior to its release. The breathtaking winter attraction has been demonstrated to be of benefit not only to tourists but also to year-round residents of the area. Tickets for the inaugural season of Ice Castles in Lake George were purchased in excess of 77,000 times.
A Little Ice Castles History & Behind the Mystery
The founder of Ice Castles, Brent Christensen, had the idea to create an ice cave for his daughter, but the project ended up becoming a tourist attraction that is known all over the world. Ice Castles can now be found in a total of five states, including New York State, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Utah, and Wisconsin.
Previously, the attraction could be found in Colorado, but it will not be going back to that state for the 2022/2023 season. The location in Lake George is the only one in the state of New York. It takes a team of twenty to forty ice artisans approximately eight weeks to construct an ice castle.
During this time, the team collects and positions between five thousand and twelve and thousand icicles. After that, the various elements are doused with water and the process is repeated until the ice has reached heights of approximately 15 to 30 feet. At night, the attraction is illuminated by LED lights that have been embedded within the ice.
