In/Spectre Season 2: The wait for new content is one of the most annoying aspects of being an obsessive anime fan, yet every fan in the world has at least one series they wish would return for another season. Over two years have passed since the first season of the supernatural thriller anime In/Spectre ended.
While it has been known for some time that the anime would return to television, the release date for season 2 of In/Spectre has suddenly been pushed back several months, much to the disappointment of fans. The first season of the “In/Spectre” anime has twelve episodes in total.
The original release date for the anime was October 2022, but it has been pushed back until January 2023. Keiji Gotoh is back as director, while Noboru Takagi is back as a series composer; Brain’s Base is back as the animation studio. Character designer and main animator Takatoshi Honda has been succeeded by Kentarou Matsumoto (director of the animation of In/Spectre). Returning to their roles as Iwanaga Kotoko and Sakuragawa Kuro, respectively, are Akari Kitou and Mamoru Miyano.
In/Spectre is based on Kyou Shirodaira’s supernatural mystery novel series, published by Kodansha. The series began in 2011 and will conclude in December 2021 with the publication of the fifth volume, a short story anthology. The Kodansha Taiga imprint is responsible for its publication at the moment. In 2015, Kodansha also began publishing Chashiba Katase’s manga version of the novel.
Though virtually little information is currently available about it, a second season of the series is confirmed to be on its way. Here’s all we know about “In/Spectre” Season 2 thus far.

When Will In/spectre Season 2 Be Released?
Crunchyroll first announced a second season of “In/Spectre” in a blog post released in November 2020. In full, the statement includes reactions to the series’ renewal from the creator of its written source material, the author of its manga translation, and one of its major voice actors, in addition to a trailer for the season.
Rather than feature sequences from Season 2, though, the teaser is essentially a synopsis of Season 1. Its only the voiceover, rather, that’s new – retelling some of the important events in the first season. At the trailer’s conclusion comes a notice that Season 2 is in production, with no further details as to when the season would be published.
Given that the current epidemic has damaged anime as it has almost all other types of entertainment, and that seemingly none of its animation was completed as of November 2020 Season 2 of In/Spectre will premiere in January 2023, during the Winter 2023 anime season.
Season 2 was supposed to premiere in the fall of 2022. As of late November 2020, Crunchyroll tweeted that Season 2 of In/Spectre was in production.
Who Are The Key Characters In In/spectre Season 2?
The main character of “In/Spectre” is a girl named Kotoko Iwanaga. Kotoko, then 11 years old, was taken by the yokai, a fictional race with their own civilization, when she was abducted. The name yokai refers to a class of monster spirits in real-world Japanese mythology, such as the turtle-like Kappa and the long-nosed Tengu.
The latter of which serves as the inspiration for the “goblin” emoji (via Emojipedia). As a young girl, Kotoko was chosen to represent yokai in human culture as their “Goddess of Wisdom.” She now has a high rank among yokai, but at the expense of an eye and a limb.

Kuro Sakuragawa, who stands in direct contrast to Kotoko, is also a young adult with ties to yokai. While Kotoko enjoys special status among the yokai, Kuro is shunned since his grandmother once fed him yokai flesh. However, the yokai he consumed bestow upon him a wide range of supernatural abilities, such as foresight and the capacity to recover from nearly any wound.

What Can We Expect From Season 2 Of In/spectre?
Kotoko and Kuro’s participation in the Yokai realm and their blossoming romance are the two main causes of stress in “In/Spectre.” As at the end of Season 1, Kotoko and Kuro are a couple, rather than just dating, which is the largest shift in the latter plotline that will affect Season 2.
Since Season 1 was based on the first volume of the light novel series “In/Spectre” by author Kyo Shirodaira, Season 2 would most likely draw heavily or entirely from the second volume (via Anime News Network). Patrick Frye, writing for Monsters & Critics, compared the first season of the anime to the manga and found that they were very similar.
They explained that Kotoko and Kuro, the protagonists of the light novel series, solve a mystery in the beach resort town of Totomizu in volume two. In addition, Kuro’s cousin Rikka continues to be a negative factor, much as she did in Season 1. More information about Season 2 of “In/Spectre,” including how closely it follows or deviates from the light novel series, has to be provided before the show’s premiere.
