The first video from the upcoming fifth, as of yet untitled Indiana Jones adventure was unveiled at the D23 Expo on Saturday by director James Mangold. The entire house erupted. And rightfully so, the “Indiana Jones 5” footage looks fantastic. Mangold, who took over directing duties on the movie from Spielberg, said on stage, “I saw ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ in high school, and it’s one of the reasons I became a film director. One of my producers is Steven Spielberg, who is one of my all-time favorite filmmakers.
“Henry Ford is one of my all-time favorite actors, too. And one of the greatest composers of all time, John Williams, is my composer. Working with you on this has been an honor and a pleasure. That makes me think of the other fantastic addition to this cast, the incredible Phoebe Waller-Bridge. I was surrounded by a wealth of talent, assistance, friendship, and wisdom. I was reenacting a fantasy about what it would be like to produce one of these films, honoring in my head what these films are for you and me and trying to bring that back for the upcoming year.
The “Indiana Jones 5” trailer was fantastic, highlighting some amazing scenes, including Mads Mikkelsen as a Nazi, Indy riding a horse through the New York subway, a chase through a Manhattan ticker-tape parade, and Sallah (played, once again, by John Rhys-Davies). The trailer concludes with Indy pulling out his whip and snapping it at a group of bad guys, pulling out many guns. Phoebe’s Waller-character Bridge is also shown in the clip. He dodges.
It appears to fully capture the essence of the first three movies, which was sadly lacking in the most recent entry, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.” Ford entered the stage after the trailer had finished playing. With his voice shaking, Ford said, “Thank you for making these movies such an incredible experience for all of us.” “This one is fantastic, and I’m very proud to say that. And this is just one of them. Ford pointed at Phoebe.
Ford continued, “Indiana Jones movies are filled with mystery and excitement, but they also have a lot of heart. I’m so glad we have a film that will kick your ass and an incredibly human story. I’m excited to be back here for possibly. Not possibly, no. It ends here. I won’t give in to you once more. But I want to say thank you. We appreciate Mangold’s efforts in putting the pieces back together and creating such a fantastic movie.
Waller-Bridge expressed happiness in making the film, saying, “I had the time of my life. Keeping up with this guy is exhausting, but I am fortunate. Jim, you have preserved and restored everything people want and need from these films, which is something these movies mean a lot to me. I can’t wait until you see it! The “Indiana Jones 5” release date is June 30, 2023.
