Illinois’ LAKE COUNTY (CBS) – An investigation is ongoing after an inmate at the Lake County jail was discovered dead inside his cell on Friday night. According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, a correctional officer found the inmate, a 51-year-old Barrington man, unconscious in his bed at 8:34 p.m.
According to the sheriff’s office, the officer knocked on the prisoner’s cell and tried to wake him, but he was still unconscious. Before Waukegan paramedics came and took over primary care, staff provided first aid and CPR using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The convict was given extensive medical attention before being declared deceased.
According to the sheriff’s office, the inmate was taken to the Lake County Jail soon after midnight on Friday after being arrested for an unsolved order of protection violation warrant in unincorporated Barrington. According to police, he was given a double-inmate cell but did not have a cellmate.

When rounds were conducted, the jail was on lockdown, and the inmate “looked okay.” According to the police, the prisoner had several underlying medical issues and his body was free of unusual bruises or marks. On Monday, the Lake County Coroner’s Office will do an autopsy. The Lake County Major Crime Task Force is looking into the matter independently.
