Amir Nasr-Azadani, a former soccer player in Iran, was given the death sentence for fighting for women’s rights. The punishment made FIFPRO feel “sick.”
Mahsa Amin, a 22-year-old Kurdish girl, was killed by Iran’s morality police for not following the country’s strict dress code. This led to a wave of protests across the country, with the government putting down those who want more freedom.
The Iranian government is taking a tough stance on the protests and wants to punish those who have been fighting for women’s rights and freedom in the country. Amir Nasr-Azadani, a 26-year-old former soccer player, is the most recent person to be given a death sentence. He will be hanged.
The “Mizan” news agency says that the footballer will get the same punishment as wrestler Majid Reza Rahnavard, who was put to death in public for taking part in protests and leading marches in memory of Mahsa Amini. The Iranian government said he was to blame for “creating terror.” After being arrested for “his war against God, he was hanged in public.” Social media was filled with pictures of his dead body hanging from the gallows.
