Ginsburg was born on July 21, 1955, in New York City. At Columbia Law School, she is the Morton L. Janklow Professor of Literary and Artistic Property Law. Kernochan Center for Law, Media, and the Arts is also under her leadership. The British Academy elected Ginsburg in 2011.

Ginsburg has produced several treatises and law review articles on copyright law. At Harvard Law School, she got her JD, a Fulbright scholarship, and a Doctor of Laws degree (1995) from the Paris 2 Panthéon-Assas University in France. Her undergraduate and master’s degrees are from the University of Chicago. She was an editor of the Harvard Law Review while at Harvard. After graduating from law school, she worked as a clerk for Judge John Gibbons of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
It was in the year 2013 when Ginsburg was inducted into the American Philosophical Society.
She is the daughter of former Columbia Law School professor Martin Ginsburg and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Ginsburg and her daughter Jane are the first mother-daughter duo in the United States to serve on the same law school. [5] Her brother, James Steven Ginsburg, is the founder of Cedille Records.

The American Philosophical Society (APS) elected Columbia Law School Professor Jane C. Ginsburg, a notable intellectual property law, comparative law, private international law, and legal method specialist, as a member.
One of the most unique aspects of APS membership is that it includes researchers from a wide range of academic fields, making it the oldest learned society in the United States. One of five classes of membership: mathematical and physical sciences; biological sciences; social sciences; humanities; and arts, professions, and public/private affairs. Membership is completely honorary.
He was chosen to the social sciences class by Ginsburg, the Morton L. Janklow Professor of Literature and Artistic Property Law. Additionally, Ginsburg has written three casebooks and several essays on copyright law in the United States and abroad. She is also a vice president of the Association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale, a Paris-based international organisation that promotes and protects the rights of writers, and the president of that organization’s American chapter in the United States.
