Jennifer Garner’s Father Died
William John Garner, the father of Jennifer Garner, passed away at the age of 85. The actor shared the news on Instagram while reflecting on her dad’s special memories.
The “Alias” actress announced on April 1 that her father had passed away “peacefully” on March 30 in the afternoon.
The caption for Garner’s photo begins, “We were with him, singing ‘Amazing Grace’ as he left us. Did we carry him across or scare him away — valid question.”
The star shared pictures of herself as a child with her father and his family on social media. It also featured a previous snippet from a Capital One ad, in which Garner, the company’s spokesperson, enjoyed a moment with William on screen.
Garner’s caption continues, “While there is no tragedy in the death of an 85-year-old man who lived a healthy, wonderful life, I know grief is unavoidable, waiting around unexpected corners.”
“Today is for gratitude. We are grateful for Dad’s gentle demeanor and quiet strength. For how he teased with a mischievous smile, and for the way he invented the role of all in, ever patient girl dad.”
Garner continued by thanking her mother, Patricia Ann Garner, as well as the medical staff whose care she believed had prolonged her father’s life and allowed him to spend his final days with his daughters and grandkids. William and Patricia were wed for fifty-nine years, according to the post.
She said at the end of her Instagram post, “There is so much to say about my dad—my sisters and I will never be done talking about how wonderful he was, so bear with us. But for today, I share these memories with my appreciation for the kind and brilliant man, father, and grandfather he was, as well as the loving legacy he left behind.”
Garner’s announcement led her friends and fans to express sympathy and think about their own relationships with their fathers.
Actor Octavia Spencer wrote in the comments, “Praying for you and your family losing a loved one is never easy.”
Lily Collins, who plays in the Netflix comedy “Emily in Paris,” replied, “Sending you and your whole family the most love and light and hugs.”
