Marty Stuart, a country music artist, is in mourning following the passing of Jennifer Stuart, his adored sister. Marty Stuart sang on the famous stage last year to mark his 30th year as a Grand Ole Opry member. Stuart celebrated his 50th year in Nashville at that performance as well.
“The Opry is a way of life,” Marty Stuart previously said. “It’s an institution that gets passed on every weekend. If you’re going to be a country performer, the Opry is the place to be.”
Stuart respects the Opry for remaining consistent, despite the fact that the genre has undergone many changes recently.
“The thing that has absolutely not changed is the Grand Ole Opry,” he pointed out. “The Mother Church of Country Music has remained and it all revolves around it.”
Marty Stuart is a Grand Ole Opry star, a five-time GRAMMY winner, a platinum recording artist, the recipient of the Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award, a country music historian, a photographer, a musician, and a composer.
Since his early days as a gospel performer in his youth, Stuart has devoted more than 40 years to preserving and advancing American roots music. His teenage years were characterized by a tour with bluegrass great Lester Flatt in the 1970s, six years in Johnny Cash’s band in the 1980s, and a fruitful solo career with number-one singles in the 1990s.
Marty Stuart’s induction into the 2020 class of the Country Music Hall of Fame in the category of Modern Era Artist was most recently announced by the Country Music Association.
