Who Was Jerry Jarret?
Jarrett, who was born in 1942 and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, entered the wrestling business as a performer in the early 1960s before moving into promotion in the late 1970s. In 1977, he and fellow wrestler Eddie Marlin established the Continental Wrestling Association (CWA), which soon became a dominant force in the Memphis wrestling scene.
During the 1980s, Memphis was one of the most popular wrestling territory in the United States thanks in large part to Jarrett’s unique and original ideas. He came up with some of wrestling’s most iconic personalities and storylines, such Jerry “The King” Lawler and Andy Kaufman’s epic rivalry.
