Charles Joseph Scarborough (born April 9, 1963) is a co-host of Morning Joe on MSNBC alongside his wife, Mika Brzezinski. He is also an attorney, political pundit, and former politician. On the same network, he formerly hosted Scarborough Country.
Scarborough, a former Republican, represented Florida’s first congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2001. Scarborough also attended the Harvard Institute of Politics while at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government as a visiting fellow. In 2011, he was recognized as one of the world’s 100 most influential people by Time magazine.
Joe Scarborough’s Early Life
Scarborough’s parents, businessman George Francis Scarborough and Mary Joanna (née Clark) had him in Atlanta. They are two of his three siblings. His family initially settled in Pensacola, Florida, but eventually relocated there from Elmira, New York, in 1973. Scarborough graduated from Pensacola’s Catholic high school. In 1985, he graduated with a BA in history from the University of Alabama, and in 1990, he received his JD from the University of Florida. During this time, he coached high school football and taught music to students while simultaneously writing songs and producing CDs for his band, Dixon Mills (including their album Calling on Robert E. Lee).
Joe Scarborough’s Career
After passing the Florida bar exam in 1991, Scarborough opened a law business in Pensacola. The brief representation of Dr. David Gunn’s 1993 murderer, Michael F. Griffin, by Scarborough was his most high-profile case. He initially represented Griffin in court but eventually recused himself, saying, “There was no way in hell I could sit in at a civil trial, let alone a capital trial.”
This remark was made in reference to the possibility of prosecutors seeking the death penalty against Griffin. However, Scarborough helped Griffin select alternative attorneys from the many who offered their services and assisted in protecting the family from media exposure without charging a fee.
In late 1993, Scarborough helped organize a petition drive to stop a 65 percent rise in property taxes for the city of Pensacola. This helped elevate his political prominence. An ACU lifetime grade of 95% was awarded to him in June 2000, during his career in Congress. He put his signature on the United States contract. Rep. Scarborough’s committee assignments included Defense, Judiciary, Government Reform, and Education. He assumed the position of Civil Service Committee chairman in 1998.
About forty first-year Republicans in the House and Senate, including Scarborough, called themselves the “New Federalists” in honor of Alexander Hamilton and John Jay’s The Federalist Papers. Scarborough was selected as the new parliamentarians’ political director. Plans to “privatize, localize, combine, destroy” the Departments of Commerce, Education, Energy, and Housing and Urban Development were among the many proposed by the New Federalists in their proposal for massive budget cutbacks across the United States government.
Following his appointment by Newt Gingrich as speaker of the House to lead a Republican task force on education, Rep. Scarborough Scarborough made the following statement: “Our goal is to get as much money, power, and authority out of Washington and get as much money, power, and authority into the classroom as possible.” It was then-House Budget Committee Chairman John Kasich (R-Ohio) who included Scarborough’s text dissolving the federal Department of Education in the 1996 House Budget Resolution. With 238 in favor and 193 opposed, the House approved the budget.
In Congress, Scarborough took a number of anti-abortion stances. He supported legislation that would have made it illegal to intentionally cause injury to a fetus while committing another crime. Scarborough sponsored legislation that would have required the United States to withdraw from the United Nations after a four-year transition period and voted to eliminate federal money for public broadcasting in favor of making it self-sufficient.
Additionally, he supported the “Medicare Preservation act of 1995,” which reduced Medicare’s planned expansion by $270 billion over 10 years, and voted against the “Small Business Job Protection Act of 1996,” which increased the minimum wage to $5.15. Voting conservatively on economic, social, and foreign policy issues, Scarborough was considered as moderate on environmental problems and human rights causes, including his support for the closure of the School of the Americas and his defense of alleged terrorist Lori Berenson.
During his time in Congress, Scarborough was honored by numerous organizations, including Americans for Tax Reform (with their “Friend of the Taxpayer Award”); the National Federation of Independent Business (with their “Guardian of Small Business Award”); the United States Chamber of Commerce Citizens Against Government Waste (with their “Taxpayer’s Hero Award”); and the 60 Plus Association (with their “Guardian of Seniors’ Rights Award”). Among the 228 House members who voted to impeach Bill Clinton in December 1998, Scarborough cast a yes vote.
Joe Scarborough Illness
News outlets have often reported that Joe Scarborough, a TV broadcaster, author, lawyer, and ex-member of the United States House of Representatives, is ill. Reports began circulating after Morning Joe’s host tweeted a statement from Oscars host Wanda Sykes, in which she said she felt physically ill and traumatized because Will Smith was allowed to stay in the room for the rest of the show and nobody tried to leave after he struck Chris Rock for making fun of his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Joe is putting in a lot of time and effort right now to change laws regarding firearms. Let’s update you on the status of Joe Scarborough’s alleged illness problem.
Joe Scarborough Is Not Ill
To our knowledge, and the knowledge of most publications, Joe Scarborough appears to be in excellent mental and physical condition. Several things, as we’ve already discussed, have led people to believe that he’s ill. The TV host’s tweeting of a statement from Oscars 2022 host Wanda Sykes is largely to blame for the rumors that he is ill. For Wanda Sykes, seeing actor Will Smith get away with slapping fellow actor and comic Chris Rock across the face for making fun of his (Will’s) wife’s medical condition that caused her to lose her hair was traumatic and made her feel physically unwell.
A lot of people who didn’t read and interpret the tweet correctly thought Joe was actually sick. The TV host continued his tirade, saying that Hollywood is a “screwed-up place” and criticizing the show’s producers and celebrities like Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry for caring more about Will’s feelings than how his actions might have affected Chris Rock.
A lot of people’s assumptions about Scarborough’s health, like that he has type 1 diabetes and COVID-19 issues, may be traced back to this one incident. These rumors were disproven upon further investigation. However, Joe is a parent to two children, both of whom have type 1 diabetes. Both of his boys, Andrew and Ethan, are supposed to be afflicted with the illness. Andrew is also rumored to have Asperger’s syndrome.
As soon as the diagnosis was made, Joe dove headfirst into research on the condition, and he eventually learned that neither of the boys’ bodies was making enough insulin to properly regulate their blood sugar levels. And he knew that until a cure was found, both of his sons would need insulin shots every day if they were to have any chance at all of leading a normal, healthy life.
After Joe Scarborough went on vacation for a few weeks last year, many assumed he had caught COVID and was following the proper protocols for dealing with it. Even this was disproved by the fact that footage of the host working from home gave no indication that he was in the midst of a life-threatening illness. The opposite was true; it depicted someone who looked revitalized after some time away.
Joe Scarborough Has Not Said Anything About His Ill Health
Joe Scarborough hasn’t given any credence to the numerous reports that have circulated concerning his health by making a public statement. He’d rather talk about the current problems facing the United States. Scarborough has primarily spoken his opinion on an 18-year-old who showed up at the scene with a gun and yelled obscenities at police officers who had been called in to handle the matter.
As he was required to do, he took careful notice of the police officers’ struggles to manage the tense situation in light of the PR hurdles they had to overcome. Joe Scarborough has been critical of Republican lawmakers after Sandy Hook for avoiding the issue at hand. He expressed his view that it was a tactic that was not successful at the present time. He spoke out against politicians, in particular, who use their mental health as an excuse for their actions.
