Thursday night, Depp, 53, was honoured for his dedication to helping those with cancer by receiving the first-ever Rhonda’s Kiss Healing and Hope Award. The actor claimed he could relate to the parents he met while touring hospitals for sick children during his victory speech. To the parents in the room, “who I have witnessed melting and their own sort of courage,” he remarked.
For weeks, while my baby was sick, I was one of “those parents.” Lily-Rose Depp, now 17 years old, was hospitalised in 2007 with kidney failure due to an E. coli infection. A young girl of seven at the time, she was. Depp and his then-girlfriend, Lily-mother Rose’s Vanessa Paradis, stayed at her side for the entire nine days she was in the hospital.
His words, spoken as he vowed to continue his work with cancer patients, were as follows: “I stayed in the [London] hospital for three weeks with my girl and my baby, not knowing if she was going to make it or not.” Please know that my parents have my utmost respect. Please know that I hold you in the highest esteem and will always be ready to fight this good battle beside you.

And we will continue to fight until we win. He then emphasised how easy it was. Depp also expressed gratitude to the medical professionals who cared for his mother, Betty Sue Palmer, in the months leading up to her death in May. In other words, she was a real devil. He reflected on her character, saying, “She was cruel, but she was amusing.
The amount of care and affection she received from every member of the staff and the smart and committed professionals who relentlessly gave of themselves much above the call of duty, I am deeply touched by this kindness. Their benevolence, and the vast depth of your expertise as medical professionals.
‘Without these folks, my mum and her family would have been very much lost in the dark,’ he concluded. We owe them an enormous debt of gratitude that will be difficult, if not impossible, to ever satisfy. Depp smiled and waved to the audience while he spoke, giving the impression that he was enjoying himself. In addition to receiving this accolade, the actor also donated one of his guitars, which was signed by him, to be auctioned off for the benefit of the charity.
Her kidneys failed and she became sick
After a close call with death in 2007, Lily-Rose was a young child. The kidney failure that resulted from the E coli food infection kept the then-seven-year-old in the hospital for nine days. When Johnny’s “darkest phase of his life” ended, he gave $2 million to Great Ormond Street Hospital the following year, as he said in an appearance on The Graham Norton Show. They said she suffered kidney failure and that she was lucky to live. It was a terrifying nine days, but we stayed by her bedside and didn’t leave until she started to get better,” he stated in 2015.
She had to fight anorexia
Lily-Rose also suffered from anorexia as a young person. In 2016, she opened up about her struggle with anorexia. She revealed her distress over harsh Instagram comments in an interview. This makes me sad since when I was younger, breaking free of that environment was challenging. Those who have experienced this illness firsthand may attest to how challenging recovery can be. She told Elle France, “I am quite proud of my progress in gaining weight after striving to do so for a long time.”
At the tender age of 20, she became one of Chanel’s youngest ever worldwide ambassadors
Lily-Rose was only 16 when she landed her first major modelling gig, promoting Chanel’s pearl eyewear line. She became the face of Chanel No. 5 L’Eau in 2016, the luxury brand’s first fragrance aimed at young adults. Since then, she is a frequent participant in Chanel runway shows and an outspoken advocate for the label at red carpet events.
Her father Johnny was a little worried about her newfound celebrity, though. That Lily-Rose is going through this at such a young age is a shock to me. Karl Lagerfeld grabbed her up, and he recognised her mother at the same age, so it’s no surprise. “When I see her with make-up and all that stuff, it’s extremely frightening, because she’s a very lovely kid, and it’s all happening so fast,” he told British media.
She left school in the eleventh grade.
Forging a career in the entertainment industry, Lily-Rose dropped out of a prestigious Los Angeles prep school in 2016. The teenage actress admitted in an interview that she couldn’t possibly balance performing with school. Did she get any complaints from her parents?
They dropped out of high school at the same time when they were both 15, so they don’t have anything to contribute. Do you get what I’m trying to say? Going to college has never been an aspiration of mine. I’ve just always wanted to get out there and make my own path. There was no use in continuing because I was not getting anything out of it. I read a lot of books and do my own research on things that interest me,” she told Vogue.
