A native of the United States, Julia Haart (born April 11, 1971) is a successful businesswoman, designer, and author. Previously, she served as CEO of Elite World Group. She was formerly the creative director at Italian luxury brand La Perla and the owner of her own namesake shoe range. The 2013 decision of Haart to abandon her Haredi community is the topic of and inspiration for the Netflix docuseries My Unorthodox Life, which she also executive produced.
The year 1971 saw the birth of Haart in Moscow. The family uprooted from Russia and settled in Austin, Texas when she was three years old. In Austin, where she lived, she went to a private school where she was the only Jewish student. After Haart’s parents had a religious epiphany in fourth grade, they decided to relocate to Monsey, New York, home to a sizable Haredi community that piqued their interest. Located in Brooklyn, New York, Bais Yaakov Academy was Haart’s educational institution of choice.

Batsheva, Shlomo, Miriam, and Aron are the children that Haart had with her first husband, Yosef Hendler. Batsheva (last name Haart), a social media personality, was married to Binyamin “Ben” Weinstein from 2012 until their divorce in November 2021. Miriam now goes by the surname Haart, which was her mother’s. Aron, a high school senior, commutes back and forth between Manhattan and Monsey to spend time with his parents.
Haart wed Italian businessman and entrepreneur Silvio Scaglia in June 2019. After being married, Scaglia changed her surname to Haart. Haart filed for divorce in February 2022, and on the same day, she was fired as CEO. Haart is the eldest of his family’s eight children; his youngest sibling was killed in a vehicle accident when he was five. Her parents and other siblings severed ties with her once she left the ultra-Orthodox group, except for her sister Hannah.

Who Is Julia Haart’s Husband?
In 2019, Julia Haart wed Silvio Scaglia, a billionaire from Italy. The fashion designer filed for divorce from Scaglia in February 2022, citing several instances of abuse as the reason. Haart’s first husband, Yosef Hendler, died in 2005 after over 23 years of marriage. Batsheva, Shlomo, Miriam, and Aron are their four children.
Batsheva, her daughter, is well-known in the world of social media. From 2012 until their divorce in 2021, she was married to film director Binyamin “Ben” Weinstein. Even though Haart lives in Manhattan, her other children spend time with both of their parents in Monsey.
Julia Haart’s Career
While teaching Judaic Studies at Yeshiva Atlanta under the alias Talia Hendler in the 1990s and early 2000s, Haart was “liked by students and recognized for her caustic approach,” according to the school’s former employees. Haart marketed life insurance undercover for a long period of time. Haart left the Haredi community in 2013, at which time she established the shoe firm Julia Haart with the intention of creating stylish and functional footwear.
She collaborated with a ski-boot designer and a German firm that makes a gel used by NASA to develop a wearable heeled shoe. The 2016 Spring and Fall Haart Accessory Collections were a joint effort with La Perla. Earlier that same year, she was promoted to the position of creative director for the company. Haart introduced a fresh direction for La Perla’s ready-to-wear line after being named the company’s Creative Director.
Haart developed the first stretch Leavers lace at La Perla and debuted a line of ready-to-wear underwear with built-in support. Models Naomi Campbell, Lindsey Wixson, Sasha Pivovarova, and Kendall Jenner strutted along a runway that Haart called “La Perla Manor” for her Fall/Winter 2017 fashion show.
One of Haart’s most famous works is the Kendall Jenner Met Gala gown she created in 2017. The dress was made out of 85,000 crystals sewn onto a thin thread. The designer hasn’t been shy about sharing her struggles. ‘Honestly, had it not been for my kids, I think the way I would have quit my community would have been to murder myself,’ she told Elle magazine. It was the year before I left. Haart said, “I recorded in my diary nearly every day, How can I injure my children the least? So I made up my mind that if I starved to death, no one would ever find out. To me, the stigma of being labeled as suicidal is not as severe as that of being labeled as having an eating issue.
