On Monday, a vehicle carrying United States Vice President Kamala Harris hit a curb and agents had to move her to another vehicle in the middle of a Washington, D.C. street. The Secret Service officers involved initially told their superiors that the incident occurred due to a “mechanical problem,” but later verified that the agent driving had “overcorrected,” according to Fox News.
According to the Washington Post, Director of the Secret Service Kim Cheatle voiced worry that agents had provided inaccurate information about the incident to their superiors. “This morning, a car in a motorcade overcorrected and hit a curb while making a defensive manoeuvre. The protected person was moved to a backup vehicle as a precaution, and the motorcade then carried on to its intended location “In charge of the Secret Service’s public relations, Anthony Guglielmi, spoke with Politico.
After saying that “initial radio traffic showed this was a mechanical breakdown,” he elaborated by saying that “staff assisting the motorcade movement” had informed agency leadership of this. “Once the defensive action was over, leadership was verbally updated with the new information that the car had hit a curb.”

Upon taking over as director of the Secret Service in August, Cheatle learned only after the fact that the driver had hit a curb on the approach to a tunnel. Fox News Digital reached out to the Secret Service for comment, but the agency declined. Someone seeing the scene from a nearby building shot a video of the chaos and shared it on the video-sharing platform TikTok.
The footage captures the moment when Harris’ motorcade has stopped and armed agents have barricaded the area in preparation for the transfer of the vice president. On her journey back to the White House, Harris returned home without incident. The Vice President was unharmed, and she is grateful to the members of her USSS detail who acted so swiftly to transport her to the White House, Kirsten Allen, Harris’ press secretary, told WaPo.
