Kantara, directed by Rishabh Shetty, is one of the most recent films to achieve commercial success and is currently the subject of much discussion and debate among moviegoers. IMDb users have given the movie an astounding rating of 9.6, indicating that it is a bigger success than the previous movie that KGF 2- Hombale Films had released. In general, I try to avoid getting tangled up in the politics around film ratings; instead, I offer my opinion to those who are willing to trust my judgment and then I leave the room. But things were different today; I not only spent two and a half hours in the theatre wondering about the ethics of film critics and industry giants like IMDb, but I also felt terrible for legendary films like Tumbbad that were overlooked because of their lack of popularity.
Kantara Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:
Kantara is based on the old stories of the Panjurli people, who live along the coast of Karnataka. According to the myth, Punjarli (which comes from the word “boar”) is the local god who makes sure the tribal people are happy and healthy. His brother Guligu helps him with the job. Locals hold an event called “Kola” every year to honor the god. The event is led by a priest. After the rituals, the demigod briefly takes over the priest to deal with the problems and questions of the tribespeople.
In the 1800s, the King of the land left his home and family to find peace, wealth, and happiness. After a long search, he finds a small village in the middle of the forest where the demigod Punjarli’s statue is kept. That’s the last place he looks. So, he wants God to come back with him to his kingdom so he can live a happy life. But there is a catch: he can only do that if the tribals give him a lot of forest land (to which he agrees).

One hundred years later, in the 1970s, a descendant zamindar comes back to the village to claim the land that his ancestors were given. The villagers protest and tell him that the demigod who has been protecting them will get angry, but it doesn’t help. The fight gets worse and worse until the Punjarli has to step in and curse the zamindar to die in pain. After the curse, the demigod runs away to a forest and disappears, leaving his young son behind.
The movie then skips ahead to 1990. It’s about Shiva, who is the son of an old demigod. He has grown up to be a jerk, but everyone in the village loves him. He hunts wild boars and eats them. He also fights. Since the demigod left, a villager named Guruva has taken over the role of doing the rituals. Shiva is supposed to play the part, but his lack of interest and carelessness make him fail. He would rather spend most of his time hunting, eating, drinking, and fighting boars.
At this point, we also learn about the conflict: Murali, a new forest officer, has been sent to the area to keep people out of the forest and keep it safe. Since the villagers don’t know much about the new laws, they are clearly upset, and Shiva talks to the officer about this on their behalf. Also, the zamindar, whose current descendant is Rammpa, is still trying to get his land back. The story then changes into one about revenge, anger (a lot of it), a series of jokes that aren’t funny, and reactions that don’t make sense. As you all know by now, my friends, this is how it ends

Kantara Movie Ending, Explained:
After all those comments, there’s not much left to say. But I’ll just summarise for anyone who wants to read more. Shiva didn’t know what his life’s purpose was until he was shown. He always had nightmares about the boar, which was a form of the demigod, which was his father. Maybe his father was trying to talk to him through his dreams so he could figure out what his real purpose was and take his place as the village’s righteous demigod.
But after Shiva died, he was brought back to life only so he could do what made him exist in the first place. In the movie, the ring of fire where the god disappears for the first time is a constant reminder to Shiva of what his real job is. After he figures it out and becomes the leader of the “Kola” customs, he runs away to the same ring of fire to meet his predecessor. Since the demigods are supposed to help the villagers and keep them safe, that’s all they’re there for. Another problem will bring about another demigod, and so on.
So, when Shiva gets to the ring of fire, he meets Punjarli, the God, who might be his father. And they both go away because their purpose has been met… until next time. In the last scene, Shiva’s son listens to the story. Maybe the success of the film will encourage the people who made it to make a sequel.
Which God is Depicted in the Kantara?
The recent popularity of the Kannada film Kantara has brought attention to the celebration of Bhoota Kola as well as the worship of daivas, which are local deities that serve as tutelary figures. The story takes place in the small town of Kaadubettu, where the locals honor their guardian deities, Panjurli and Guliga.
What is So Special About Kantara?
The depiction of class politics, which cannot be ignored in Indian culture, is the central theme of Kantara’s most important section. The tension between those who have and those who do not have is explored in this film, as is the way in which a higher caste landlord steals land from a tribal community and denies its members their legal rights.
