After Katy Perry’s eyelid appeared to become stuck at a recent show in Las Vegas, fans were left scratching their heads.
During a performance at her Las Vegas residency, the 38-year-old singer was caught on camera appearing to experience an eye “glitch.” Since the video was uploaded to TikTok on Sunday, it has accumulated more than 19 million views.
Perry struggled to lift her right eyelid in the popular video as she peered into the crowd. The “Roar” singer attempted to raise her eyelid back into position with the aid of her hand while sporting a silver dress with can-inspired details. Perry put a hand to her temple to try to open her eye once again but it closed shut once more. Perry continued the show once her eyelid appeared to be back to normal.
When a swarm of comments suggested that Perry had experienced a “glitch” or mechanical malfunction, the video aroused a lot of speculation from fans. Others, though, thought the incident pointed to a much more serious health issue.
On TikTok, one person wrote, “She’s glitching.”
Someone added, “She lost the WiFi connection.”
“That baby doll you had as a kid with the eye that kept closing,” a third user made fun of.
The assertion made by another fan that Perry’s “eyelash glue getting stuck to her bottom lid” was the cause was much more logical.

Even so, some people couldn’t help but note the shared symptoms between Katy Perry and Justin Bieber, who suffered from Ramsay Hunt syndrome and had “complete paralysis” on the right side of his face.
Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a very rare neurological condition that causes facial nerve paralysis and an ear, face, or mouth rash. The varicella-zoster virus, which also causes chickenpox and shingles, is what causes the illness.
Conspiracy theorists are going to have a field day with this one, as one TikTok user said.
Although the “Firework” singer hasn’t publicly responded to the trending video, she has previously discussed a disease known as “wonk-eye.” According to Newsweek, Perry consoled 16-year-old candidate Caleb Kennedy during the 2021 season of American Idol when he felt self-conscious about his lazy eye.
She admitted, “I used to worry about having a wonk eye, too. Then a number of my followers started a fandom dedicated to my wonky eye. I even belong to a fandom called “Katy’s wonk-eye.”
Perry previously disclosed in 2011 that she had a prescription for her eye disease, however, it’s unclear if it’s the same issue that caused her eyelid to close on stage. Perry added the message “That wonk’s eye tho” to a Twitter reply to a photo of her face in 2016.
