Kellyanne Conway hasn’t said anything about her marriage. She was the 2016 campaign manager and top advisor to former President Donald Trump. While promoting her new book, Here’s the Deal, on the May 31 episode of CBS Mornings, co-host Gayle King, 67, asked the strong Trump supporter a few questions about whether or not her marriage lasted while she was in the White House.
The strong Trump supporter dodged the questions. George Conway, Kellyanne’s 58-year-old husband, is known for being against Trump’s politics, even though he was married to one of Trump’s most trusted employees while in office. “The man you thought had your back ended up stabbing you in the back,” Gayle said, quoting Kellyanne’s new book.
This allowed Kellyanne to discuss how her relationship worked behind the scenes. “Doesn’t that make you sad? Isn’t that a sad thing?” Conway spoke up. “I think women can understand that. But this was amazing.” “George Conway’s vows are not to Donald Trump,” she said next. He doesn’t have to be loyal to a political party or president. That was important to me, and I’ll never forget it.”
Kellyanne then said that she and her husband both had “very big jobs” while Trump was president, but George’s opinion of the former president had changed. “George’s opinion of President Trump changed. He’s free to do that, but she said, “It’s not like George to be so loud in public.” George, a Republican attorney, made it clear in op-eds and tweets that he no longer supported Trump. He said that the former president and businessman were “racist to the core” in an article for the Washington Post.
Gayle asked Kellyanne, “Did your marriage last?” after she was honest about how disgusted she was by what her husband had done. Instead of giving a straight answer, she talked about spending Memorial Day weekend with George and their kids “at the shore” and seemed to stumble over her words. “Parents who are fighting still hang out with their ex-spouses,” King said. Kellyanne’s co-host Jeff Glor also started asking her about her marriage.
Instead of answering, Kellyanne said she should have been warned about her husband’s political attacks on Trump. “Why wasn’t I told ahead of time? Why didn’t George tell me, ‘My opinion piece is going to be in The New York Times and the Washington Post tomorrow? She said, “I’m in the Lincoln Project now, and we’re going to make a new ad that makes fun of your boss.” “They meant for it to make me feel bad.”
Jeff brought up that Kellyanne wasn’t wearing her wedding ring during yet another investigation into her marriage. She told her that George also didn’t wear his. Jeff asked her if she would “do it all again,” but she didn’t say anything about her husband. She said, “I would serve my country again, and I think the Trump-Pence administration has done many good things for this country.”
As the interview was coming to an end, Kellyanne kept avoiding the question. “Kellyanne, are you and George Conway together?” Gayle asked the question again. “Kellyanne, you’re not giving a good answer. I have many questions.” Kellyanne smiled as the interview ended and thanked the co-hosts for taking the time to read her memoir. Even though she had a lot to say, it seems like she’s willing to let her interview show what’s going on in her marriage.
