During the search for missing California girl Kiely Rodni, who was last seen on August 6 at a sizable high school farewell party in Truckee, northeast of Sacramento, a volunteer dive group claims to have discovered a body. The discovery has not been confirmed by law enforcement.
The volunteer organization Adventures with Purpose posted on Facebook on Sunday, “We just found Kiely Rodni.” Her car, according to the organization, was submerged in Prosser Lake’s 14-foot depth of water. The group said that the car’s license plate matched the one previously made public by police to help identify Rodni’s vehicle, a silver 2013 Honda CRV.
The organization declared that it had alerted the police and Rodni’s family and that it will have a live stream announcement on Monday to share more details. The FBI, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, and Placer County Sheriff’s Office are all currently conducting investigations, according to law enforcement, which has not yet validated the group’s conclusions. At 2:00 p.m. ET, authorities will hold their own press conference.
Police reported on Sunday that they had deployed many detectives and investigators from several agencies to the case and that they had examined more than 1,800 tips in connection with Rodni’s abduction. Last Thursday, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team searched underwater, but according to officials, they were unable to find her or her car at that time. On August 15, Adventures with Purpose declared that it will help Rodni. The dive team often accepts cold cases rather than open cases.
The volunteer organization claims it has assisted in the resolution of 23 unsolved missing person cases since 2019. It has more than 2.4 million YouTube subscribers. They discovered James Amabile’s corpse and car earlier this year, 24 feet under the ocean. After telling a babysitter he would be late picking up his two girls in December 2003, Amabile vanished.
