This year, National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day is on April 30, and the Lake County Animal Shelter is offering a weekend adoption promotion allowing adoption fees to be waived from Friday, April 29 to Sunday, May 1.
12280 County Road 448 is the shelter’s address in Tavares, FL 32778.
The shelter is open Monday through Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. On Wednesdays holidays, and weekends are closed.
The adoption includes services such as spaying or neutering, vaccinations, microchips, and a personalized ID tag.
“We encourage everyone to come out, meet our pets in need of loving homes,” Whitney Boylston, director of the Lake County Animal Shelter, said.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, regular walking or playing with pets can decrease blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and triglyceride levels.
Adopting a pet can help increase opportunities to exercise, get outside, and socialize. Pets also can help manage loneliness and depression by giving us companionship.
