Hurrican Irma Forces Business Closures

Howey in the Hills —

As Hurricane Irma approaches Lake County the streets are deserted, houses are boarded up and business owners made sure to leave Hurricane Irma their own messages.

I received a message on my phone from Lake County Schools that they were closed until further notice to allow for damage assessment. However, I have only seen in writing that schools are closed through Monday September 11th. Many schools are used as shelters so moving people out may shutter the opening of some schools if not all.

Businesses unless required to be open for the safety of local residents are for the much part closed up. This picture was taken of a business in down town Howey in the Hills, its actually the same business this writer gets his haircut which I need so I hope they open soon with no damage.

Administrative closings in Lake County include:

  • The Lake County Board of County Commissioners’ offices will close Monday, Sept. 11.
  • Lake County parks will close at noon on Saturday, Sept. 9 through Monday, Sept. 11.
