According to Ormond Beach Police, a fatal incident that occurred on Friday near a Dollar Tree store may be connected to a double homicide in Lake County. According to the sheriff’s office, two men were shot and killed last Thursday at a residence in Lake County.
Around 9 p.m., deputies were called to a home on Pennsylvania Road in Altoona. They discovered two deceased people inside: David Thomas Mikell, 34, of Umatilla, and Shane Eugene Clements, 41, Altoona.
The sheriff’s office stated that “the shooting was not a random act” and that “the two persons of interest do not reside at the residence.” Roger Gilbert, 35, and Samantha Butler, 29, were identified by deputies as persons of interest in the shooting deaths.
A call regarding a car with a bullet hole was received, according to Ormond Beach authorities. Police officers started looking for the vehicle, eventually located it, and attempted to stop the driver. According to the police, the car slammed into a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant’s parking lot.
Butler, the driver of the car that collided, passed away due to the accident. Her death, according to investigators, was not brought on by wounds she sustained in the collision. According to investigators, Gilbert allegedly tried hiding in the nearby Dollar Tree. Gilbert was detained by police on unrelated charges and was lodged in the Volusia County Jail.
