Lil Uzi Vert (born Symere Basil Woods on July 31, 1995) is an American rapper and performer. With their facial tattoos, piercings, and androgynous dress, the group is best known for their melodic emo approach to trap music. Following the release of the commercial mixtape Luv Is Rage in 2015, Lil Uzi Vert was signed to Atlantic Records under DJ Drama’s Generation Now imprint, which led to a recording contract with the label.
In 2016, Lil Uzi Vert’s debut track, “Money Longer,” was released, and the group gained widespread notice. ‘You Was Right’ was featured on Uzi Vert’s subsequent mixtape Lil Uzi vs. the World (2016), which served as the album’s lead single. Lil Uzi Vert appeared on Migos’ hit track “Bad and Boujee” after releasing two more mixtapes in 2016 and 2017, one of which was a collaboration with Gucci Mane. It wasn’t until “XO Tour Llif3,” which won the MTV Video Music Award for Song of Summer, that they broke into the top ten of the charts.

Lil Uzi Vert’s Early Life
Symere Woods was born on July 31st, 1995, in the Francisville section of North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was Mike Jones’ debut record, which they bought for the first time, that introduced them to the Ying Yang Twins and Ying Yang Brothers. When Woods heard Wiz Khalifa and Meek Mill for the first time, they were influenced by their sound.
When they were 13 years old, they started listening to Paramore, Smash Mouth, The Rocket Summer, Simian, My Chemicals Romance, and The All-American Rejects, as well as Marilyn Manson, Paramore, Smash Mouth, The Rocket Summer, Simian, My Chemical Romance, and After hearing student William Aston freestyle over a remixed Chris Brown instrumental, Woods began rapping in 10th grade, calling himself a “normal kid, I didn’t really want to rap.” Steaktown, a rap trio formed by Woods, Aston, and another friend, disbanded while Woods was just 17 years old.
It was just four days after they dropped out of school and started to work at a Bottom Dollar store that Woods and their mother were booted out of the house. Because of this, Woods decided to get their first ever facial tattoo, the word “Faith,” below their hairline, which spurred them on to pursue their rap profession full-time. In July 2021, Woods tweeted that their birth certificate reveals they were born in 1995, despite thinking they were born one year later.
Lil Uzi Vert’s Career
In 2010, Woods began rapping under the alias “Sealab Vertical” and began working with groups like Steaktown and “just for money.” After someone described their rap flow as “Fast, like a machine gun,” they changed their name to Lil Uzi Vert. On January 19, 2014, Woods released Purple Thoughtz Vol. 1, his first album. The project’s psychedelic and “trippy” music were described by The Guardian as “phonk” and “cloud rap beats,” and it featured Woods with a greater concentration on lyricism than most of their career.
Spaceghostpurrp produced the track, which went viral in hip-hop circles in 2017 after Wood broke into the mainstream. Purple Thoughtz Vol. 1 drew notice from industry veterans like ASAP Mob shortly after its release. DJ Diamond Kuts broadcast one of Woods’ tracks from the project on a local radio station, and Don Cannon, the producer, and Def Jam A&R.
The Academy label, saw the potential in Woods and signed him to The Academy, and produced their debut mixtape, The Real Uzi. DJ Drama, Don Cannon, and Leighton Morrison’s Generation Now imprint signed Woods to an Atlantic Records album deal after the release of The Real Uzi.
Woods appeared on Carnage’s “WDYW” with Rich the Kid and ASAP Ferg following their deal to Atlantic Records. They also published a number of tracks on SoundCloud, including “No Wait,” “Pressure,” a collaboration with Lil Durk, and “Dej Loaf,” all of which were produced by Metro Boomin. “Boys of Zummer” tour with Wiz Khalifa and Fall Out Boy included them in August 2015.
On October 30, 2015, Woods dropped their second mixtape, Luv Is Rage. Sonny Digital, TM88, and Maaly Raw provided production, while Wiz Khalifa and Young Thug contributed vocals. The project was well-received, with articles about it appearing on sites including Fader, XXL, and Vibe. HotNewHipHop also referred to them as a “breakout artist” for 2015.
Lil Uzi Dead Or Alive
Many people believed that the “Lil Uzi dead” fad was a PR ploy for the release of his new songs in 2020. Regardless, I can assure you it was not the case. To grab the public’s attention, the 26-year-old musical sensation doesn’t need to do anything like that. It was enough that UZI indicated in a tweet that he and Future were working on a new project,
Crazy thing is me and @1future about 2 drop again 🤦🏾♂️🔥

Rumors were spreading on WhatsApp, and some social media accounts were republishing his death news without verifying it. It is safe to say that Lil Uzi Vert is still alive and well, and his fans can relax. The story that Lil Uzi died over the holiday was false, according to social media speculation. There is no truth to the report that Lil Uzi has been kidnapped or murdered, according to our source.
Where Did Death Rumors Come From?
It was then reported that the American rapper Symere Bysil Woods had died of a drug overdose in recent days. A bogus headline with the subhead “26-year-old rapper has reportedly overdosed at a LA hotel” went viral on TikTok on December 27. An ambulance responder and a stretcher can be seen in the generic picture provided by Tiktok user @demigodgelo, who has over 44,000 followers.
In the video, which he captioned “I knew this day would come bru,” he appeared to be stunned and surprised. There is a watermark at the top of the fake headline from a meme generator website called “break your own news.” The post earned over 390,000 likes and thousands of comments on Facebook.
