Authorities have named the 30-year-old man who was murdered after being driven over by a car in Beach Park while lying down on the road. According to Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton, an examination revealed that Brian Edwards, 30, died as a result of blunt force trauma consistent with a car and pedestrian collision. The Beach Park Fire Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the intersection of Lewis Avenue and Hickory Drive around 4:20 a.m. on October 30. The 911 call about a car that hit a pedestrian was received, according to Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

When sheriff’s deputies came, Covelli said they discovered a dead adult male they later identified as Edwards. According to an early inquiry, Lewis Avenue was being travelled southbound by a Volvo S40 being operated by a Waukegan lady, 28. Covelli reported that Edwards was unidentified laid down in the southbound lanes of Lewis Avenue.

The Volvo’s driver failed to notice the man and ran him over. The reason the man was on the road is still being investigated, Covelli stated on Monday. Last week, Edwards had an autopsy performed by the Lake County Coroner’s Office. The Technical Crash Investigations Unit of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office is still looking into the collision.
