Marvin Powell and Jim Sweeney, two renowned offensive linemen from the 1970s and 1980s for the New York Jets, both passed away on Friday and Saturday, respectively, according to the team’s announcement made on Sunday.

The contention of Powell’s son, Marvin Powell III, is that his father passed away as a result of heart failure. The circumstances behind Sweeney’s passing were not made public right away.

Powell, at 67 years old, was selected to the All-Pro team three times while playing for the Jets from 1977 to 1985. He was chosen in the first round of the draught to participate. The Buccaneers of Tampa Bay was his team for the final two seasons of his football career.

Sweeney, now 60 years old, was chosen in the second round of the 1984 draught by the Jets and went on to start the first game of 158 consecutive games for the team, primarily at the centre. From 1988 through 1994, he was a member of the Jets and played centre for the team exclusively.
