Seven people were killed in two separate shootings in Bay, California, on Monday. The shootings happened at a mushroom farm and a trucking company in a coastal town south of San Francisco. A suspect was taken into custody. Dave Pine, president of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, says that four people died on the farm and three died at the trucking business on the edge of Half Moon Bay, a city about 30 miles (48 kilometres) south of San Francisco.
Chunli Zhao, who is 67 years old, has been arrested by the police in connection with the shooting, Pine said. Pine said that one of the businesses was where the suspect worked. He said that the suspect was “disgruntled worker.” The shooting was the sixth mass shooting in the United States this year. It happened right after 11 people were killed at a ballroom dance hall in Southern California late Saturday night.
Just before 2:30 p.m., the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office got the first report of a shooting. At the first scene, they found four people dead from gunshot wounds and a fifth person hurt. Capt. Eamonn Allen said in a news release that about five miles (eight kilometres) away, officers found three more dead people with gunshot wounds.

A sheriff’s deputy found Zhao in his car at a sheriff’s station in Half Moon Bay, about two hours after the first call. He was arrested, and a gun was found in the car he was driving. Allen said that the sheriff’s office thinks he did it on his own.
The office didn’t give any information about how the two places are linked.
Allen said that no one knows why the person was shot.
“We’re still trying to understand exactly what happened and why, but it’s just incredibly, incredibly tragic,” said state Sen. Josh Becker, who represents the area and called it “a very close-knit” agricultural community.
Aerial footage of a farm with dozens of greenhouses showed police officers gathering evidence there. About 12,000 people live in Half Moon Bay, which is a small coastal city with roots in farming. Flowers and vegetables like brussels sprouts are grown in the city and the area around it in San Mateo County. In some places, the county lets people grow cannabis.

According to Census data, most of the people who live there are white, and about 5% are Asian.
“We are sickened by today’s tragedy in Half Moon Bay,” Pine said. “We have not even had time to grieve for those lost in the terrible shooting in Monterey Park. Gun violence must stop.”
Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, wrote on Twitter that he was
“at the hospital meeting with victims of a mass shooting when I was pulled away to be told about another shooting.” In Half Moon Bay this time. Tragedies after tragedies.”
