After a shooting in McKeesport on Tuesday afternoon, one child was killed and another was critically injured.
When officers and medics were called to Versailles Avenue at about 3:30 p.m., they discovered the two victims. According to police, both were rushed to hospitals, where one was confirmed deceased. The other is in grave danger.
At least ten evidence markers were scattered over the ground at the Uni-Mart gas station parking lot.
“We just had a meeting last night to talk about anti-violence,” said Keith Murphy, president, and CEO of Healthy Village Learning Institute. “What can we do as a community, as a police force, and as a school district? We need allies in this fight. And, as I mentioned last night, we can either sit back and wait for the news to broadcast this, or we can try to get ahead of it and prevent it from happening. It will not be easy work, and everyone in McKeesport must understand that.”

McKeesport Area School District announced on Facebook that McKeesport High School and East End Academy would conduct asynchronous virtual days on Wednesday.
“The safety of our kids is a major priority at the McKeesport Area School District, and hearing of the tragedy this afternoon is heartbreaking. During this terrible moment, the district’s thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families “The district announced on Facebook.
No arrests have been reported. If you have any information, you should contact the police.
“Until we find a way to start recognizing those issue locations, an occurrence like this can generate an unwarranted narrative for our community,” Murphy said.
