Metallica has announced that its 12th studio album will be called “72 Seasons” and will come out on April 14, 2023, through the band’s own Blackened Recordings. The 12-track album is Metallica’s first full-length collection of new music since 2016’s “Hardwired…To Self-Destruct.” It was produced by Greg Fidelman, who worked with founding members James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. The album runs for more than 77 minutes.
The first single from the album is called “Lux terna.” It’s a three-and-a-half-minute blast that reminds people of the band’s early albums, which got a big boost when “Stranger Things” used their 1986 hit “Master of Puppets” in a big way earlier this year.
James Hetfield said this about the idea behind the album’s title: “72 seasons. Our true or false selves are made in the first 18 years of our lives. The idea that our parents told us “who we are” when we were young. A possible way to put us in a box about what kind of person we are. I think the most interesting part is learning more about these core beliefs and how they affect how we see the world now. A lot of what we do as adults is a reenactment or reaction to what we did as kids. “Prisoners of childhood or breaking free from the ties that bind us.” The full list of songs is below.

The band will play two nights in every city it visits, and each “No Repeat Weekend” will have two different setlists and support lineups. The famous Metallica Snake Pit will move to the middle of the stage on the M72 tour, which will also have the I Disappear full-tour pass and the first-ever discount tickets for fans under 16 years old.
Friday, December 2, tickets for two days will go on sale. Beginning on January 20, you’ll be able to buy tickets for just one day. Go to metallica.com/m72-info for more information, such as when fan club members can buy tickets early, how to get better experiences, and more.
The band’s All Within My Hands foundation will get some of the money from each ticket sold. It has given $5.9 million to career and technical education programs in the US, over $2.5 million to fight food insecurity and more than $3.2 million to disaster relief efforts around the world.
Citi is the card that the M72 Tour recommends. Through the Citi Entertainment program, Citi cardholders in the U.S. will be able to buy tickets before the general public starting Wednesday, November 30th at 2:00 pm local time and ending Thursday, December 1st at 10:00 pm local time.
