Netflix’s Witcher Season 3 Storyline

The official plot summary for The Witcher season 3 has been released by Netflix, and it reads as follows: “Although many monarchs, mages, and beasts from all over the Continent are vying for her capture, Geralt flees with Ciri of Cintra into hiding in order to protect his newly reunited family from those who seek to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer guides them to the safe castle of Aretuza, where she hopes to find more about the girl’s latent powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battleground of political corruption, dark magic, and betrayal. Their only option is to fight back and put everything on the line – or risk losing each other for all time.

“The Witcher season 3 story will take off where the second season left off: the net is closing in on Ciri, with Nilfgaard, Rania, and the Northern rulers all vying to catch – or, worse, murder – the Lion Cub of Cintra. Francesca and the surviving elves also have Ciri in her sights, who is now under the protection of Geralt and Yennefer. Those warring parties and divisions will almost probably be the driving force of the future season. As Geralt remarked of Ciri’s destiny in season two: “The demon; the Wild Hunt — she’s marked for something, and it doesn’t end there. If wizards and royals find out she’s still alive and what she’s capable of, they won’t stop coming for her.

”There’ll be a frantic hunt for Ciri in future episodes, with Yennefer and Geralt scrabbling to defend her as the core trio becomes connected together in one epic plot. Hissrich previously told TechRadar that the third season is centered on The Time of Contempt, which sees Yennefer, Ciri, and Geralt journey to Aretuza so that Ciri may learn how to wield her power. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has stated on Twitter that the upcoming season would adapt Andrzej Sapkowski’s ‘Time of Contempt.’

The first season adapted portions of The Last Wish, while the second season focused on A Grain of Truth and the majority of A Blood of Elves. We’re not getting into significant book spoilers here, especially when the program is trying to depart from key aspects of the source text. In short, though, expect one of Geralt’s most horrific battle sequences, an odyssey for Ciri, and the entrance of the criminal organization The Rats. If you want to take up where the plot left off, be sure to check out the reading sequence in our guide to The Witcher novels.
