Never Have I Ever Season 4 Storyline
The protagonist, Devi Vishwakumar, is a 15-year-old Indian-American Tamil girl living in Sherman Oaks, California. The abrupt death of Devi’s father Mohan causes her to lose feeling in her legs. Because of the emotional toll of the situation, she is rendered immobile for three months. But one day she gets up on her feet again, and everyone waits to see if she can finally put the hurt on Paxton Hall-Yoshida. She had a terrible first year of college socially and now wants to start over, but she is having a hard time doing so because of her relationships with her friends, family, and herself.
The following school year, she struggles with her loss, her sense of self, and her academic performance. All this, while she also fights with her relationship with her mother, Nalini. Devi also has to deal with her feelings for Paxton and Ben, when she cheats on both of them with each other. Adding to the mix is a new newcomer at school, Aneesa Qureshi. The series follows Devi’s every day chronicles dealing with all of this. Professional tennis star John McEnroe narrates most episodes of Never Have I Ever for Devi, while comedian Andy Samberg voices Ben and model Gigi Hadid voices Paxton in three episodes.
Nalini brings up the topic of Devi’s acceptance letter at school at supper (the principal called her). She dismisses it as unimportant, but Manish chimes in to argue that it is vital because nobody can enter (even though he applied for a teaching position). At that point, Nirmani chimes in to remind him that he should count his blessings that he does not work there, since his frail constitution would not tolerate the high altitude.
I’m getting the ouch or the burn from his words (or something indicating how her comment stung). He asks the family patriarch, “I thought you liked me now?” She says, “I love you” in response. And that’s why I’m concerned about your frailty. Neither Devi nor Nalini is enthusiastic about leaving. Soon after, Kalama approaches her and strongly suggests she pay the place a visit. This makes her remember the time she expressed to her husband her desire to relocate to India.
He tries to persuade her that moving here will give their daughter the best educational opportunities. Thus, Nalini had a change of heart and they now travel together. The institution offers college-level classes and provides enough freedom that it treats its students like adults. In this scene, Devi expresses her desire to leave by telling her mother so.
The next day, Devi attends Paxton’s commencement address. Do you know if he graduated at the top of his class? In a word, no. This institution, however, is home to the world’s most famous person to interview. He even talks about that special someone who pushed him to success — Devi – but as McEnroe observed, her stomach is not in knots.
However, it is for Ben when he informs her that he does not want her to depart. Paxton then joins them, and they have a final moment before Paxton heads off to Arizona State. Paxton tells her he would not have been into college if it was not for her. Devi tells him that he got her through the death of her father. He asks, how? (So do the rest of us, by the way). “By becoming a dream,” she says.
