Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, representing New York’s 24th District, has introduced the Trump’s Birthday and Flag Day Holiday Establishment Act. This legislation aims to designate June 14 as a federal holiday to honor both President Donald J. Trump’s birthday and Flag Day.
Born on June 14, 1946, President Trump’s birthday coincides with Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the U.S. flag in 1777. While Flag Day has been recognized since 1949, it has not been an official federal holiday. Congresswoman Tenney’s proposal seeks to change that by creating a new national holiday.
In her statement, Tenney emphasized President Trump’s significant impact, stating, “No modern president has been more pivotal for our country than Donald J. Trump.” She highlighted his achievements, including brokering the historic Abraham Accords and implementing substantial tax relief measures. Tenney drew parallels to George Washington’s birthday, which is recognized as a federal holiday, suggesting that President Trump’s contributions merit similar recognition.
The proposed holiday would serve a dual purpose: honoring President Trump’s legacy and celebrating the American flag. As the nation approaches its 250th anniversary, Tenney believes this designation would enshrine both the former president’s contributions and the flag’s significance into law.
For the bill to become law, it must pass through both chambers of Congress and be signed by the current president. If enacted, Americans would observe a new federal holiday on June 14 each year.
Congresswoman Tenney’s district encompasses a broad region, including all of Genesee and Wyoming counties, most of Niagara County, and the southern portion of Orleans County.
As the legislative process unfolds, the proposal is expected to generate discussion and debate among lawmakers and the public alike.
