The northbound lanes of I-880 in Oakland were closed for hours early Friday because of a crash involving an overturned tractor-trailer that hurt people. This caused traffic to back up on the Nimitz Freeway.
Around 2 a.m., the crash was first reported on northbound I-880 at Oakland’s Fruitvale Avenue, just north of High Street. The accident with injuries involved an overturned big rig, two other cars, and two people. All lanes were blocked, and the CHP sent a severe traffic alert.
Later, the CHP confirmed that a big rig pulling a trailer hit a black Infinity in the far right lane, which caused the big rig to flip over and land on all lanes. The driver of the black Infiniti said he or she had gotten out of the car to check the tyre when the big rig hit them. Both drivers got hurt, but it wasn’t too bad.

Authorities said that people going north on the motorway had to get off at High Street.
As of 6 a.m., all lanes were blocked, but crews could get the big rig back on its wheels. Due to the accident, tractor-trailers can use I-580 westbound in Oakland until further notice.
Just after 6:30 a.m., the CHP said that the accident had been cleaned up, and all lanes were open again.
Drivers are told to expect delays and to find other ways to get around the area.
